No doubt.... who would have thunk it

that really is a lucky break.... my experience with the vets in the area is usually not that great because of lack of poultry experience..
i'm really excited about this, cause i was really nervous about doing this surgery myself...

i spoke with Elise ( the intern) who will be performing the surgery and since yesterday she has done more research and contacted one of her professors at the University of Guelph and they have come up with a plan to cut out the dead tissue, scoop out the infection and stitch Ernie up.
He will be a house rooster for a while until the stitches heal and he will be wearing a " cone" like the kind a dog wears after he gets altered.
He has a very good chance for a full recovery as the mass is not attached to his muscle tissue or any organs.
He is still feeling good and eating and drinking and pooping normally, i wish they could do the surgery earlier but Monday at 10 am is the time.
i will keep you all posted and i will have pics of him post surgery as i'm sure a chicken wearing a cone is something most of us have never seen

Too bad you can't provide pics of the actual surgery! That would have been fascinating. I have to say I think that it's really wonderful what you're doing for Ernie. So many people would have just culled him (though for some it's the only option because of finances) but you've been really persistent and caring.
