Exciting New Section On BYC - BYC COMMUNITY RECIPES

I have submitted my recipe for raspberry cheesecake. I tried to include the picture from when I made it last but it wouldnt let me upload because the file was too big. I do have the pic in "my uploads" however. I tried to use that but it didnt work. Can you put the pic in for me or let me know how to do it? It would make it easier to include pics if the forum had an automatic sizing option like when we post pics in the other threads. Thanks! Terri O

terri, a thought about the size of your pictures. I use a program that compresses the photo and I can crop it to only show what I want to show. So when I post it, it is not as large as when I down load it on my computer. I use Microsoft Picture Manager prior to uploading on the internet.

I'm worried I may have accidentally clicked an "rating" when I was scrolling.

I can't tell. It should tell me if I rated a recipe. Just so I know (and allow me to change my rating). And not allow me to "double rate" it - I would have to have two "1's" on a recipe that were accidents from one session. Are you able to rate a recipe without commenting (or comment without rating)? It would be nice to know why recipes were rated a certain way and if it's something easily "fixable".

Also, the flash picture on top takes too much screen realestate - I have to keep scrolling down to see anything, even though there's a fair bit of padding below the image.

Also, the flash on that div disables my scrolling on my touchpad, which is a real pain since I can't see anything until I scroll down.

So much for feedback.
I do want to say

great idea and beautiful layout overall. Thank you for doing this!

So once we post recipes on BYC does that mean they're copyrighted because they're on the internet? Guess I'm confused. Can we post a recipe if we say "from Country Home Magazine, December, 1994", for example?

"Copyright law does not protect recipes that are mere listings of ingredients. Nor does it protect other mere listings of ingredients such as those found in formulas, compounds, or prescriptions. Copyright protection may, however, extend to substantial literary expression—a description, explanation, or illustration, for example—that accompanies a recipe or formula or to a combination of recipes, as in a cookbook." (U.S. Copyright Office, Circular #1: Copyright Basics)

Recipes are often considered a "gray area" - but you can post *your* version of how to do a recipe. Just don't copy and paste it from anywhere else. And if it's something someone else made up, even if you're writing up how you do it, give credit with a link or a citation to them.

For more info on copyright and the internet, see this article, especially the statement "It is not necessary to have a notice of copyright (i.e.:
00a9.png
1997 Jane Doe) for material to be copyright protected in the U.S. Once something tangible is produced, text, graphics, music, video, etc., it is automatically copyrighted."

Note that posting on the internet is, by default, copyright material. It will say if it is NOT copyright, i.e., public domain or creative commons, etc; if in doubt, assume anything you didn't personally write is copyright and someone else's work!

This is great. I'm always searching for new and easy recipes for Quail. I found a fantastic one for bake-less Brownies. My grandson and I made it yesterday and it is fantastic. Simple enough for a 9 year old to follow too. I know I'll be adding it. Great for the holidays. A good one for the kids to make.

Great Idea!
I probably spend 50% of my BYC surfing time on the recipes threads anyhow, so having them all organized by category in one spot is soooooo cool!

I've already added one & will go through my recipes for more.
