Well I had an appointment today.

I told my doctor my concerns.

It was funny, she didn't mention DS AT ALL. The only time she got close to mentioning it was when she brought up my excellent quad screen results. She sounded more concerned with a heart defect and said that's why they are sending me to Spokane for the 3-D u/s.

Also, the EIF's are on BOTH sides of the baby's heart....not just the left like I originally was told last week when the nurse called. Which, depending on what you read may make the risk for the baby having DS something like 4 times my age-related risk.

She said that they want to rule out something wrong with the heart...because if it's something serious, they'll send me to Spokane or Seattle to deliver because they don't have the facilities here to accommodate a baby with a heart condition at birth. She did say that the heart has four chambers (like it sound) and when I read what was on the screen, she pointed out the radiologist's exact wording with the EFI's as "TINY." She said sometimes there are large ones, holes in the heart, missing chambers, weird aortas, etc. Luckily, that's not the case with my baby.

She then COVERED the part of the screen about the EIF's and showed me what the radiologist had said....that EVERYTHING else was 100% perfect with the baby's measurements, all of her (other) organs looked great (kidneys, intestines, bladder, brain), the leg bone measurements are good, the nasal bone was there, the lips are forming perfectly, and the baby's crown to rump and weight are perfect for her gestational age. She also said that the cord is attached well with good blood flow and oh by the way, "you have a low-lying placenta." Not enough to call it "placenta previa" at this point but just something to watch. HA! Like I need anything else at all to "watch!"

Overall, my appointment made me feel a little bit better....not much but better.

So with the 3-D u/s on the 28th, they will have a neonatal cardiac specialist there and they'll be re-measuring and checking everything out in great detail. If there is DS and/or a heart defect we will know at that appointment. My DH is coming with me, as well. My doctor did say that I'll get some awesome 3-D images of baby's face.

So glad you had another appointment with your Dr! I am especially glad that the EIF were considered "tiny" and everything else looks perfect - hopefully your appointment on the 28th goes well for you. Look at it as a bonus ultrasound! You get to see your little girl again before she's born!! Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi All! We went to an gender determination ultrasound today- yeah, I know its early and I'm only like 14 weeks and 5 or 6 days, but I am just dying to know!! I'm going to post a few pics of the ultrasound, and I was hoping ya'll could give your honest opinions on the sex. The tech says Boy (

), I was really hoping for a girl, but when I look at the pics, I keep thinking it could be a girl still....maybe. I dont really think its a girl, looks kinda boy to me, buuuuuutt, its still pretty early, so, maaaaayyyybeee she was wrong??

Anyhow, tell me what ya think! Dont hold back, I dont mind another boy (I LOVE the 4 I've got and another will fit in just fine!), but this is my last (getting my tubes tied this time!) and I would soooo love to have one more girl! So, if any of you understand the whole 'white lines' for girls and dangly thing for boys, let me know what you think YOU see!!

In the first 2 the genitals are on the left, the last picture is more of a 'toilet shot'.

Well it does look kinda boy, but my doc said at my 14 week ultrasound he wouldn't check gender, he said both boys and girls look exactly alike at that time, he even showed us in a book how they look alike. SO there is still LOTS of hope!

Way, way, way to early to tell. They're only about 70% accurate at this point, and that's only if they REALLY know what they're doing. From what I've heard at these early ultrasounds, if they are pointing "up" its more likely to be a boy, pointing "down" is more likely to be a girl. I still hold out hope that you have a girl!!

BTW, where did you get your ultrasound done at?

At 14 weeks boys and girl both "poke" out. I would do another one closer to 18-20 weeks.

I understand how you feel. I had 3 boys and then my last was a girl (course we adopted 3 older girls after that and now that my oldest is out of the house and my 17 yr old boy is gone a lot, my 10 yr old boys is surrounded by 4 sisters, he is smack in the middle of them, poor thing!)

My sil had 4 boys then a girl and she is now pg with a girl.

Good luck!

I went to a place called Baby Connection. I went to her with my last baby at 15 weeks and 5 days (it was more obvious and she was right on in her prediction!), she is an US tech in a hospital and is doing the home US for people as a side job, but it is her business and I think she's pretty good and has been doing it for about 4 or 5 years now. She has a nice little room in her home that she does them in and she has a pretty steady clientelle. I am still hoping she was wrong since baby never gave her a really decent shot, but I guess she felt pretty confident. I think I will hold out a tiny bit of hope until I see a better, more developed shot of the goods! I might go back in 2 weeks when I am around 17 or 18 weeks just to be sure.
