My mom and her mother were both type 2 diabetics as well.. My 1 hour test is next Tuesday and I am a wee bit nervous because of that fact alone!

Yeah...my mom is diabetic and her grandmother was...my dad is too...my mom's is not just genetic...she's been very overweight since she had kids...never lost it until about 5 years ago--when she was diagnosed diabetic. Then she lost 60lbs just by changing her diet somewhat....my dad got it because he wasn't eating right (he exercises a lot) but would eat what my mom brought home or prepared for dinner...which was never healthy!

But he's lost a TON of weight and he now eats much better (because my mom buys him better food) and he rides his bike for 20+ miles a day (when the weather is good).

So maybe there's hope....my MIL who is a lab nurse (at the same clinic) just messaged me on FB and said that 9 out of 10 people that come back and retest end up negative their second time around....

so here's to hoping!

RFF, the reason the previous poster was asking about baby size was that with diabetics, the babies are large. Dh & his sis are type 1 since childhood (they use the insulin pumps). My SiL had to have CS with her 2 kids to deliver early as they were getting big. She also had retinal pressure problems and had to have eye surgery with the first one. People with gestational diabetes have same risks, just lowered.
Most likely you will be fine. If not, it's not the end of the world & just remember you're not doing the treatments just for your health, but for baby's too.

I'm really praying for those who are waiting on results of the Glucose tests!

I hope everyone is feeling great today.

Update on myself:

The large 6cm cyst ruptured the night I fist posted about it. It wasn't dramatic or more painful than the rest of the cyst issue. I only know it ruptured because suddenly I felt about 50% better. I have had two pretty good days but today I think I can feel another one getting large. So this is probably going to be a cycle for me, and the Nurse told me today she's not sure when it would end. I am hoping it would end after I can stop the progesterone shots...anyway that makes sense to me.

I did the hCG beta and Progesterone level blood work again today but got there after their time they ensure results that day. I will post results tomorrow after I get them.

On another, semi-related topic of Pregnancy Health Care.

I am having a bit of an issue with one of my Dr's two nurses. I really like them both and they are both skilled. However, the issue I have with one is she feels its appropriate to give me medical advice that goes against what my Dr. and the other nurse tells me. For example:

situation #1) I was put on sprironolactone, it wasn't working for me so I kept requesting the dose to be upped. This is what my Dr. told me to do after two weeks and I dont notice a good difference. So the third time I get the Rx increased I get this particular nurse on the phone and she goes "WOW!! I have NEVER heard of anyone being on this high of a dose, I would be concerned about this. I don't think the doctor would increase this again...its the largest dose I have ever seen approved."

---this of course concerned me a LOT. I then went on a two hour computer session reading and reading about this drug. Her comments made me really uneasy to take the prescribed dose. Next time I saw my Dr. I told him about this and he assured me the dose was perfection acceptable and I shouldn't worry.

situation #2) this happened today. I went in for my blood draw and I told her about the cyst and she was like "yeah that was a huge one, no wonder you were in so much pain" and so I relayed to her that the Dr. had adviced me to alternate heating pads, extra strength Tylenol and low dose Ibuprofen so that I can have some function. When I told her this she immediately told me, "you really shouldn't take ibuprofen at all, even in small doses". And i told her that I had known this to be true in the past but that the Dr. explained to me that in the first trimester and with the amount of pain I was in that it would be ok to make this exception. And she just said, "no it's really not ok, you shouldn't take it at all."

--I was quite irritated this time because I have enough to worry about. I don't need her to be this way, she might think she's being helpful but she's not at all. I am debating if I should call the office and talk to the office manager or head nurse about her "advice".

I had been taking caffeine & Ibu in the first tri when my migraines hit and I didn't have to take my migraine meds. Once you hit the second, they really shun the Ibu as it's the combining doses that affect both yours (no big deal) & your fetus' liver (much bigger deal). I would bring this up with your OB and ask that you not have to deal with this nurse if possible. She does not need to give you her opinions, only the medical facts. IMO.

3day migraine left me no choice but to take my migraine meds.

I always feel guilty taking as it's best for baby not to. But when you have to, you have to.

DH & I got a doppler yesterday. What fun!!! I know I'm just shy of 19w and I feel baby daily but it really brings DH a connection to him/her. He got to move the probe around and we watched the screen to see what her heart rate was.
