Expectant parent club! Where the pregnant people hang out.

I may ask the doctor about it. My husband has allergies also so it wouldn't shock me if our son will have some. I had to get weekly allergy shots when I was in junior high cause I had so many. They definitely helped settle most of my allergies down.

I'm going into the nesting phase. Since we will be building a house in April I need to get the spare room here turned into a nursery till we get moved out. Has a ton of junk that needs arranged but it is all the heavy stuff. Have to wait till the guys think it is time to help. Did get my travel system put together.

Have anyone of you ladies had an epidural? I am considering getting one since I don't handle pain to well. My mom has even told me to get one. The doctor told me I had all three options (natural, epidural, or c-section). I'd rather not do a c-section unless I need one cause I don't want to mess with healing from that as well as having a newborn. Does an epidural help any and does it have any bad side effects after?

Does doing squats and massaging help prevent tears?

Yes. I've had epidurals.

They are often very good pain control but there are never any guarantees. If your hospital doesn't offer narcotic pain relief it will be your only option if you don't want to go unmedicated.
Everything has risks and benefits. A good habit to get into before your baby arrives is making decisions using
B.R.A.N.D

Benefits
Risks
Alternatives
Nothing...what happens if we do nothing
Decide

It is a good tool for labor and birth and for making decision for your baby.

benefits of an epidural....pain control, allows you to rest and sleep, save energy for pushing, make supporting you easier (iow, easier for your husband and family

risks...can't change positions easily which can keep the baby from coming down as well, can lower your blood pressure significantly, back may hurt for hours/days/weeks/months after birth, may make you feel removed from the birth process, can slow labor..

Epidurals can be wonderful things but having one doesn't promise a pain free experience.

Have you taken any childbirth education classes?

I'm not pregnant but can't help myself popping in here :D

I have 10 children. 1 C-section, 9 VBAC's. Ranging in age from 19-10 months. I used to teach parenting and babycare when we lived in CT and also trained as a childbirth educator and doula but I rarely do either anymore, at least formally.

I don't have easy pregnancies and the last few have been pretty rough with #10 landing me in the hospital for a month. For the everyone's sake I am done. It may seem crazy to some...most....but the thought of never being pregnant or having a newborn again makes me

.

So instead I live vicariously through others. I can get pretty earthy-birthy so if I drop TMI on you just tell me to shut it.

Anyone have ideas for insomnia? Between being a very light sleeper to begin with the little one guy doing the boogie every few hours I am exhausted. I swear, if a mouse passed gas in the kitchen I would wake up. If I had managed to get to sleep in the first place. :/

My Dr. has always approved of Unisom. I don't take it all the time but I do take it when needed. I tried doing a small glass of wine to help me sleep but it didn't work for me.

Hi Everyone!

I'm not pregnant yet, but am undergoing IVF this month and DH and I are hoping to be expecting very soon! We are dealing with male factor infertility and this is our first IVF-- been TTC for 2 years. Starting injects tonight and expected retrieval is the last week of Feb. I just wanted to pop over and see if there were any precautions I should take when taking care of the chickens and such (we have 8 Dominiques and are hoping to breed chicks this spring with broody).

Also, if we are blessed to become pregnant this cycle, I thought it would be so fun to somehow announce it using the chickens since they are such a part of our life and unique to us. Anyone have any fun ideas of how to announce pregnancy with your flock involved?

Good luck with IVF! I was the infertile one in our relationship and it took us over 3 years. Miracles happen.

Anyway, I'm 6 months preggo now and the biggest concern is carrying food bags. Basically I can't. Otherwise I've been involved with my chickens just as I always am. Might want to wear a face mask when cleaning the coop to prevent yourself from catching anything but that's it as far as I know.

Now sure how involved your hubby is with the chickens now but I had to take mine out and show him where everything was and how to feed them for when I can't. You'll obviously not be doing anything after baby is born for a bit.

I'm a pretty sturdy woman but for some the risk of miscarriage is a concern. I'd suggest if it is a concern for you you just delegate food bag carrying to your spouse.

x2

Most chicken illnesses aren't transferable to people so just washing your hands and not lifting anything too heavy is about all you need to do.

I get my joy tomorrow of drinking that nice sugary glucose drink. Hopefully I pass it since I don't want to do the 3 hour test. The doctor and nurse never told me about a certain diet or fasting though. I'm going to not eat anything tomorrow morning just incase since my appointment is at 8:15am anyway so I can eat after the test. I don't know why they just don't do some type of blood test that doesn't involve the drink to see if you have it or not.

Friday is my first day of my third trimester. I've been getting more nervous about if I have everything I need. Some stuff I'm holding off on till I get closer and I'm wondering if I can find nursing bras and tanks that will fit me in time before the baby arrives. I'll probably start looking in early April and get some that are a bit bigger for my milk to come in. The temporary nursing room is not ready at all and I have to wait on my husband or FIL to help me clean it. You know how men are that they want to wait till the last minute to do something so you sit around having to nag.

Eat something before the test or the headache will be murder and you will feel a lot crummier than you have to! The nurses told me to eat but avoid sugar. Scrambled eggs and a slice or two of toast should be just fine, as an example. No cheesecake.

And I certainly understand about the Nagging Effect. DH still hasn't finished the brooder that he decided to make for the chickies. They hatched Saturday.

I ended up buying a rubbermaid tub two days before the hatch.
