Expectant parent club! Where the pregnant people hang out.

Robin'sBrood :

I don't want to be a downer here but let me just throw something out to you gals with your gestational diabetes tests. Last year when I was pregnant with Ethan I failed my first GTT (by 1 number) and had to do the 3 hour fasting test. I just knew I was going to fail that one too, but I got a call from my OB's office saying I had passed it. So I ate anything and everything my sweet tooth wanted me to eat. Then when Ethan was born (@ 9lbs, 15oz) he wound up being hypoglycemic and had to stay in the NICU for 6 days because he couldn't keep his blood sugar up. The neonatologist questioned my GD results so I called my OB and asked for my numbers. They were so high that it barely passed as normal, but no one told me this.

So I'm guessing that I probably did develop GD after I had that last test done and went through the rest of my pregnancy undiagnosed with it.... and my baby suffered as a result of it. If y'all even think you might have it, ask for your actual numbers and ask your doctors if, even if you "pass" but your numbers are in the high zone, if you need to alter your diet. It's no fun being discharged from the hospital without your baby, and it is beyond scary to think babies can die from uncontrolled GD.

Might be a downer but it is true. That is why I keep a check on my sugar at home with my diabetic tester. I was told with my first baby that I could cause him to be still born if I let my sugar get too high and kept it that way. Try to never let it get over 170 right after a meal and if it does, I drink lots of water and walk for awhile to bring it back down.

So I am going to get my second grandchild in October!!! My daughter in law called me and she is pregnant! I am so excited. My grandson will be 20 months old when the baby comes.

i had a real hard time brushing my teeth the 1st trimester, but it was my toothpaste. I hated it even before was preggers and it just got worse and worse. I threw the tube away and it resolved, now I wish I kept the tube so I would know never to buy that one again.

I just had my appt wed with the dr to discuss my GD test...all was well with that but I am a little anemic. Gotta remember every night to take those vitamins! Now I know why I seem a little more tired lately.
I am worried about working through this, We have been really busy at work. So much that I did not get to take a break until 2:30pm yesterday (started at 730am). I talked to my boss and he is fine with me needing to sit down and take breaks, but the nature of my job really doesn't allow that. Monday night I was cramping all night long from standing all day and tuesday i felt like I was on the verge of cramping all day. wish me luck! My dr said if I can't manage to take it easy I will be forcefully removed from work.

My doctor said they would call today if there was any issue, but that no news was good news... So just gotta make it through today without hearing from his office...

No Gestational Diabetes!!!! I think I'll go eat a cookie, LOL! And Bill is making me say the fine print... This is not confirmed by the doctor yet, he has not gone over the results, but the nurse said I was dead in the middle of the Good Range.

I am taking prenatals... I'm sure that's the problem. I will ask about the low iron ones. Thanks for the info! Coffee always did the trick, before I got pregnant! Anything that ever worked before, doesn't apply now. It's almost like my body knows I can't use conventional remedies and it is doing it just for spite!

Have you tried decaf? Or switching to something like cocoa or peppermint tea? It's just something hot for me in the morning that helps...

Ms. Fuzzy Butts. Prenatal vitamins are a a definite solution to having, um, loose stools? I am assuming that is what you are talking about since you mentioned coffee doing the trick!!! LOL! If you are eating red meat as well, that is also going to increase your iron, as well and many leafy greens.

I had that issue when I was pregnant. I solved it with mexican food. And artichokes.
