Thank you!

This new doctor is SOOOO much more reassuring. In fact, he told my MIL after we'd left that if we were his patients, that he would have NEVER put us through that. He would have just had us come back in a week for another u/s because things change so fast when they are growing so quickly. He also said that he's not too pleased with the other doctor and her way of handling things. In fact, he said that he would do amino (no problem) except my DH is against me doing it....because of the m/c risk. I think the risk is a lot less nowadays?? I just want to know 100% so I can either prepare or be completely relieved!

Rarefeathers-

Amnios are not that risky. The needle is very fine, and they guide it the whole time using ultrasound. They only go into a pocket of amniotic fluid and draw out a small amount of fluid. Its not like they are going in blind, and they can move the needle out pretty fast if baby gets wiggly. Really, there is very little risk of misscarriage (very similar to why some doc's wont let some women do VBAC- less than 1% risk of uterine rupture, so ANY risk must be told to the patient, no matter how small).

I had an amnio with baby #3. I will tell you how it was for me.... It hurt. It is the creepiest feeling ( and yeah, the needle hurts going in, no matter how skinny it is) to feel the fluid being sucked out, kinda like your tummy is being deflated like a balloon! I had cramps for the rest of the day, but they werent like labor/period cramps, they were these weird, achey, things just dont feel right cramps. They went away by the next day, but they were really weird. I didnt have any leaking or bleeding or anything. I was further along than you though since they were doing a lung maturity test to see if my son could handle being born 3 weeks early. (placenta previa= c-section, and yes, he was ready and ok!)

I hope I havent freaked you out or anything, my intention was the oppposite- I wanted you to know someone has been through the procedure before and what the exprience was like, and to know it really isnt that risky. I think you should go ahead and have the test. I am soooooo glad you got a new Dr, your old one really wasnt treating you well at all. I think the amnio, if nothing else, will help to quell your fears and help you to relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. You deserve it after all the heck you've been through!

PLease keep us updated!

Tomorrow? Wow! That is great, you won't have sooo long to wait. I only skimmed over the posts on this thread that were made since last Wednesday.. I was looking for yours the hardest since I knew you had an appointment Thursday. We got pummeled with tornadoes here in the South and I have been out of power since Wednesday. Me and my entire family are ok, but MANY were not so lucky... I was worried about you and everyone else on this thread and couldn't stand not being able to check in on here. But power finally came back on this morning and I have been catching up on dirty dishes and laundry.. Not to mention a fridge full of strawberries that needed canned. So now, after 4 days of nothing to do, I am pooped and looking forward to a much needed warm shower!!

Everyone please welcome Sebastian...born at 7:56pm today. He was 20.25 inches long and 7.6lbs

LONG baby for two, very short (Asian) parents! LOL
