I don't blame you. The only reason I did it was because I am at the age that my risk starts to increase. Not that it would have really mattered, because by the time they did the testing, I was already mentally attached. So as long as it doesn't come out slimy, green with sharp teeth and slither across the floor like something out of a sci-fi movie, I'm content.

I agree. Even if we did find out for sure that the baby was going to have some type of disability, we won't terminate the pregnancy. Even if we would consider that option, we are right on the borderline time when they do not allow termination anymore.

Just to throw this out there....wouldn't it still be good to know if there's a defect so you (and the doctors) can be prepared for life-threatening conditions at the time of birth?

We chose not to either, our reasoning being that there are too many "false positives" and we've known too many people who have been stressed out their whole pregnancy just to find out that their baby is fine (i.e. they had 1 in 8 odds of a problem). We wouldn't have terminated even if there was a problem, so we're just as happy not knowing until the baby is born.

Kelly, that's a good point, but with chromosomal abnormalities, there's not much you can do in utero and they should pick up any neural tube disorders during the anatomy scan ultrasound at 20 weeks. In either case, there are typically warning signs during pregnancy if there's a problem which will need to be emergently addressed at birth (i.e. slow growing baby, inactive baby, etc).

GFF, in both my pregnancies, I have had a month where I gained 9 pounds (without changing my eating at ALL!!). With my DD, it was twice - from 20-24 weeks and 24-28 weeks. With this one, it was from 24-28 weeks. The rest of my pregnancy, I'll gain 2 lbs/month or less, but for whatever reason, my body really likes to gain weight during that time frame! Just hoping to reassure you that sudden weight gain at this point can be somewhat normal (still be careful though!!).

Good luck! Maybe your little one wont be as shy and wiggly as mine was. It took my poor tech a half hour to catch a glimpse of the goods.

YES! I've only known my appointment date/time for six weeks! I'm dying here!

But thank you!

I think I would certainly have the wiggly problem too if they scheduled me any later in the day, but luckily it's at 830am, so I'll probably have to eat something to wake it up.. Boy, it will be great not having to refer to our little baby as an it anymore!

But, my tech better tough it out, half hour or not, I'm not leaving with an 'it' baby!

Uh oh! Mine was that time of day too.... Even though she was wiggly, I still had to get off the table and bounce around to make her shift and uncross her legs.. Then I'll be danged if she didn't throw her hand down over it and then finally let us get a view. But don't worry if that happens, stick to your guns and hang in there until it isn't an it anymore, like you said. And don't leave us wondering!!!! Post as soon as you get done.

She gave you a run for your money didn't she!?

Too funny! ...well, now at least.
And I certainly will keep yall in the loop, I'm sure it will be all I can talk about tomorrow anyways!
