Expectant parent club! Where the pregnant people hang out.

Welcome to all the new mom's on the board!!!

I haven't been around much because my mom just came into town to help me finish getting ready for the baby! I'm 37.5 weeks right now, so I'm glad to have everything set up and ready to go

! It's nice to know that my little boy won't be sleeping in a dresser drawer when he comes home...

I guess one of these days I should actually pack my bag, especially since I'm only a week away from where I was when my DD was born...

He called i an atrial septal defect.

I had an echo-cardiogram on the baby back when I went in for the 3D u/s and they said it was 100% healthy/normal heart function. The doctor today said its a very "common thing" and usually resolves itself before or shortly after birth. He said they'll hook up the baby to monitors after she's born and double-check.

I was looking so forward to having her and now I'm back to Googling and worrying and thinking about Down Syndrome all over again.

He just said that the baby has "dropped way down" and "settled" into my pelvis. He said my cervix is "closed."

I want her to wait at least one more week--anything before 37 weeks born here has to be shipped off to Spokane....so if she could just hold out one more week...

I spent another $100 today, buying some more items I needed for her....(extra fitted crib sheets, waterproof mattress protector, etc).

I'm still waiting for my diaper bag from Amazon to show up...I have to get our room cleaned & go through my closet and purge a bunch of stuff....and set up the bassinet in there....DH has to get the car seat in the car...I have to pack my hospital bag, decide on a breast pump....AKKK!

You'll probably make it one more week

they could possibly have your due date wrong as well. Especially if your cervix is closed - that means it's not getting ready to release your baby.

Doctors think they know better than nature, in reality, they aren't following nature but a man made text book that says, "this should happen by this time". In reality, every baby is different and will come when nature intends, and not when a doctor says. (Unless a doctor induces it/sections it).

Good luck, RFF, and we'll keep you and your precious little girl in our prayers.

Thank you. I hope to make it at least one more week...anything sooner than 37 and they ship baby off to Spokane.

My original c-section date was the 16th. Now I don't know...DH is upset that I didn't ask more questions...after the hole in the heart thing I kind of shut down and was trying not to lose it.

I'll agree with Quail - I'd be shocked if you went in the next week. The head in the pelvis has very little to do with when you actually give birth! The cervix is a better predictor, and its still not very good at all!

Is your doctor someone who specializes in cardiac issues? I was just wondering because an "atrial septic defect" apparently looks very similar to the foramen ovale (a hole in the atrial septum) which is seen in all fetuses - I found several articles saying that its almost impossible to differentiate between them based solely on ultrasound. Its also a great sign that they said she had perfect cardiac function at your 20 week ultrasound.

Glad to hear that you're getting prepared! I spent WAY too much money this weekend, but it feels so much better to be "ready" for baby, ready really being a relative term since I don't think anyone is ever really ready

Here's an article for people studying to be ultrasound technicians - page 32 is for atrial septal defects - you might check it out!

http://www.studiolift.com/fetal/site/downloads/18-23%20weeks%20scan.pdf

Although the in utero identification of ... atrial septal defect has been reported, the diagnosis remains difficult because of the physiological presence of the foramen ovale.

I hope this helps you feel better!!

don't worry too much about hole in the heart, my grandmother was found to have been born with one - when she was in her 80's and having open heart surgery for something unrelated. It wasn't an issue to her, she was in the air force in world war 2, she had 4 daughters "the hard way" (without drugs, and for the last one, without any help other than my grandfather)... so it's not necessarily something to worry too much about.
