My midwives gave me a check sheet to help me figure out what I wanted. The biggest thing is figure out what is important to you. But don't make it too complicated. If you want music you could bring the radio and put someone in charge of it.
My basics were:
-I want to room kept dim, I want people to stay quiet
-I want to be able to move around. Only possible if you don't do an epidural. I had a key word set up. If I said I wanted drugs I also had to say the key word so hubby would know I'm thinking not just yelling for it. I never even asked.
-I want the room with a shower if possible.
-I want to push with contractions on my own not have people bark at me. One lady said to me when I was catching my breath between contractions, your supposed to be pushing on contractions not breathing through them. I looked at her and said I'm not having a contraction. I think it was when the baby was rotating.
-I want to leave the cord until it quits pulsing (this one did go out the window, I had mecconium in the water)
-No Heb B, No Eye goob (I don't have STDs this isn't needed), No Vit K (I supplemented my diet prior to delivery and the shot is linked to leukemia and other things)
-I want to breastfeed as soon as possible
-I want the baby to remain with one of us the entire time
I had also looked into what I wanted if I had to have a section. Like I wanted at least one hand free, I wanted to watch baby born, etc
If you google birth plan you will see a lot think about what is important to you and go from there.
