External pip but no hatch and pip at wrong end

Sit on your hands. :D they get really quiet and sleep. mine are usually 8 - 12 hours being quiet before they make a second pip and then its still around 3 more hours before they start zipping. if they've pipped the wrong end it's even longer.

you might be able to see them nibbling at the membrane if the pip is open enough. That should reassure you that they're ok. you won't be able to see that on all of them. Just the ones where you can see their beak poking out. :D
Thank you so so much. That’s a relief! The one that pipped at the wrong end does have an air hole and I can see it breathing. The other one pipped externally but the shell is hiding the hole so I can’t see him just yet. Hoping for a good hatch!

It’s been almost 10-11 hours since my first egg pipped and he hasn’t done anything since then :( my one that pipped the wrong way is chirping and trying to zip but it looks like they are stuck. I had another one pip the wrong way but they haven’t done anything. Then I had another one make a tiny external pip a few hours ago but nothing else. I’m honestly so worried I don’t know what to do. :(

:hugs patience. could you post a picture of the one you think is trying to zip (without taking it out of the incubator) how long has it been trying if you're not sure that's fine.

since you do have a malpositioned one you should take a look at this:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatching.64660/

the one that pipped the wrong end will need more than 12 hours from when it pipped possibly 48. the others could be a full 24 hours before they try to get out.

Thank you. I’m honestly so stessed since I recently lost a hatch about a month ago. It’s just so worrisome because I’ve done everything I could throughout the hatch, temp and humidity wise. :(

do you know what you're humidity is at? this one looks a bit dry, but it's possible it bled a bit when it pipped. the membrane on the blue? one under the thermometer probe looks a little dark too. but the pictures blurry so it might not be it's hard to tell.

aside from the yellow/brown of the membrane these guys looks good. The larger pip hole on the bronw one is just a secondary pip it's doesn't look like it's trying to zip yet.

:hugs It sucks loosing chicks. I had a couple of really good hatches and a few pretty bad ones. my most recent I got less than 50% to hatch, with a couple of special needs chicks too. :/ all but one was a malposition too. they all got out un-assisted though which was a plus.

biggest thing with the last few days of incubating is giving them more than enough time. in 3 years of hatching (learning how to assist and when) the worst thing is going in too early. I've only had one chick survive having it's yolk on the outside. and that was this year.

:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy

hope you get lots of babies.

Thank you so much. Humidity is at 65-70% currently. I just added some more water to it since it went down a bit. I hope they all make it! Thank you again for your advice :)!
