Fall chick raising

my californian quail are about a week old, not due out for a while yet.when they go out it will probably be 0C so will probably put them out during the day at first and at night put them in a cold room in the house. i thought i squeeze one last set out

first year raising from chicks any birds (apart from a kestrel)

Temps here in MO right now are in teh 70's in the daytime and low 50's at night. MO weather can change in a heartbeat and we can see pretty cold weather. If I order today I can get them next week so sometime in Nov they would be ready to adventure out to the coop. Is this too late?

We (husband and self) live in Missouri as well, and were told by several area folks that the chicks will be just fine to be out in their coop as soon as they are fully feathered. Right now we have some 2 week olds and some 2 day olds and we have more to hatch in the coming week. Granted, their permanent home isn't with us, but forum folks who are also in Missouri. As long as the coop is well sealed and properly ventilated at the same time, they'll create enough heat on their own to stay warm.

The only thing we'll be doing in regard to heat is a heated tin under the waterer to keep it from icing over.

Yes very true Cluckycharms-- Were do you live in MO and maybe you could help me. I am looking for a turkey or a couple hens or pullets. I dont have much money but am looking for someone to maybe be generous and swing me a deal or alittle compasion

Our little meaties are just over 3 weeks old. They have been out since we got them in a horse trailer with a Brinsea EcoGlow for heat. The first couple of weeks we kept them in large box in the trailer and covered the box at night with a thick blanket. After they got bigger and feathered, I took out the box and they are doing great!
It has been VERY cold here at night, getting down below freezing and we are expecting snow this coming week. I will try and get some pics this weekend to share :)
