Falling Down Heights, my daily life

Pain. And soreness.

Spent a large portion of the morning yanking out weeds in the yard. Since I can't free-range this year due to that damn fox, they've taken over. In a lot of cases, they are taller than me!

One weed in particular I was aggressively eradicating, and then I found out it's edible. Especially it's berries. It's called Black Nightshade and so I thought it would be poisonous and didn't want to risk my animals or grand kids eating them. But I decided to check afterwards and DOH! 🤦‍♂️

Not only are the berries edible, but so are the leaves. The berries are good raw or can be made into jam and stuff. So now I gathered all the yanked plants and put them in a bucket of water in the hopes of ripening the mass of berries on them. At least it's a vigorous plant and there are still tons of them around!

Are you sore today? :D

WAS feeling a bit better, at least body-wise. But I culled three cockerels and my big rooster. Lower back is now in pain.

The cockerels were Silkie mix bantams, so are small. That rooster though... Broke my heart to cull him, but I don't have the space or budget for him (not being able to free range is costing me so much in feed). Plus he was rough on the hens. He must have been at least ten pounds. And being older, he's gonna be tough as nails. Dulled my knife processing him!

BUT, his chick hatched today! Was NOT expecting this! I don't know if the other egg will hatch though, so this is going to be annoying. The single duck egg in there also looks like it's going to hatch soon, air cell has descended. Too bad the mom is either blue barred or splash, it would have been nice to have another bright red bird.
