Farm Swap at TSC in Lewiston Maine- May 12th, 2012

I am coming to the swap.
I am planning on buying turkeys for sure. I am in Monmouth, if someone wants to split a purchase of 6 I would be happy to.
I don't have an incubator so quail eggs won't work for me, but would buy a dozen quail if I could get my hands on them, straight run or sexed is fine, any age from adult on down.
Luv My Goats, I would also buy the Blue Ameracauna Roo to bring home to my girls.
I am looking to rehome a buff orpington rooster if anyone wants him, he has never been aggressive.
I also have a black Muscovy Drake I would rehome, he should not be used for breeding, he has a messed up feather that sticks out.
I have two khaki Campbell Drakes I would sell or swap.
I'll definately bring the Ameraucana roo then

Bummed, but looks like I cant make it to this swap either. Was looking forward to a nice, relaxed weekend, but it seems everyone has to be everywhere so that idea has to wait another weekend. So, Luvmygoats, that unfortunately eliminates the JG eggs for now I guess :( But hopefully I will be in touch soon and will be able to get some from you at some point!

Starting in June I will be at the Skohegan swaps 3rd Saturday of each month...or I can ship eggs.

Not sure yet if i can get the day off from work to go...but if I CAN I will have:

4 guinea keets - not sure age, but feathered--(can I still sell as long as all 4 are bought together?)
If they are old enough to sell, I will take them. What do you want for them? As long as they are AROUND 8 weeks, you can sell them.

Oh, and my final list:

-3 Barred Plymouth Rock hens. Apprx 1 year old
-3-4 Buff Orpington hens. Apprx 1 year old. (2 are spoken for, so if you want the other 2, speak quick.)
-English saddle, I believe it is a 16 inch seat, does NOT come with stirrups or a girth. Better as a training or lesson saddle as it is a little bit scuffed.
-Homemade Dog and Horse treats. All natural ingredients!

And I am looking for:

Incubator if the price is right
Excercise pen?
Anything else that could 'catch my eye" in the yard! LOL

Once again I am looking for a bantam hen that is SQ and PQ for my daughter to have for 4H. Cute factor counts but friendly is most important.

Question: I bought chicks today which I ordered way back-- the second installment of my order to come in so far. I got told today that the Ameraucanas I bought today are called EE by the company which set me off! I wanted Ameraucanas not EE or OE-- not that there is anything wrong with them but that isn't what I ordered. How do I know that I have Ameraucanas and not a cull/mix? The guy at the counter didn't even know Ameraucana and Araucana were different. Ger. I walked out with three very cute and easy to handle chicks. I've looked on line but I don't know... Is there a dead giveaway? They have cheek ruffs. I can't tell leg color. They were in the box and now under a red heating light.

Question: How can they sell only 1 or more if these are only a week or less? I thought there were rules stating 6 or more unless it was a private farm.

Well, I am not an Americana person, but to my knowledge, there isn't a way to tell between an Americana and an EE. But I would post it in the "What Gender or Breed am I" section, and see what people say... The more knowledgeable people of those breeds might tell you something else (something more correct).

And no, they aren't supposed to sell you just 1 chick (or even 3, for that matter). How long ago did you buy the other 3?

Alright, I knew this felt funny when I walked out with just three chicks the first time. I had ordered 9 total back in late March-- three Brahmas, three Silver Laced dottes and three Ameraucana. I went today because three more birds came in from my order, of which I picked up the first installment about a week ago. Well, today I told them that their homemade order form had the name of the Ameraucana spelled wrong-- no 'I.' The woman responded that that's how their seller spells it but that they are also called Easter Eggers. I did an internal flip. I debated not taking them. Baby chickens should not be so cute, ever. I had never ordered chicks and had no idea what I was up against. I said something to the manager who told me that I wanted Araucanas. I then gently went into explaining how they are different and that EE and OE are not either one. I explained that they are culls or crossbreeds with the colored egg gene being dominant. He didn't seem happy but didn't say anything. I drove an hour and a half for all this with a return trip and a cranky baby still to go. Today I asked if they had any other unclaimed birds (still looking for bantams) on an impulse and ended up with two Welsummers as well si I left with 5 this time. The EE are so small!. Hadn't planned it. I am worried that there are cat ladies and I might be a chicken lady :/ They would have sold me just one bird today if that was all I wanted. So... chicken lady with EEs, that's me. I did check feet... pink and grey/green.

Oh, I just remembered that I also have an English saddle to sell. I will add it to my "final list" but I wanted everyone to see it, and most people don't reread what they have already read. It would be better for a training saddle, or a lesson saddle, because it is a little beat up. Still very strong and useable! Worked great on my obstinant (sp?) mare. I just decided that English isn't really my thing. It does NOT come with stirrups or a girth (I borrowed some from a friend). And I believe that it is a 16 inch seat, but I will have to check.

Hmm, maybe someone else can help you out on the leg colors. I have to say though, if your feed store advertised them as Americanas, that is what you should have got. I would demand your money back, especially since people charge more for pure Americana's than EE's! Oh, and work into the deal that you keep the chicks anyway. It is not right for them to not know what they are selling, and they need to know it. If they don't meet your demands, tell them they lost you as a future customer to their store. Period. Just what I would do, it isn't right!
