Fart sound but no pooping?

I have a Rouen male around 5-6 months old. The last couple of days when he's foraging, I've heard him make this sequence of squirty fart sounds like he's trying to poop but nothing comes out...four or five little squelchy sounds in a row. I've also noticed he's started displaying mating behavior towards my female khaki campbell.

He's eating and playing fine, no lethargy.

Is it maybe an indication of constipation or other intestinal issues, or just duck mating behavior? I can't find anything on the web that explains this.

That was a recent article it’s about chickens but could be true for ducks as well
