I have 2 chicks that someone gave me. He said they were only 6 weeks old, but they are very large, like 10lbs each. One of them moans at night, and coughs a lot during the day. I bought penicillin to inject, but was having difficulty, so I gave it to him/her orally. It might be a rooster. Is that okay to give a dose of about 50ml orally of injection doesn't work?
Hello and welcome to BYC, You found an Awesome poultry Forum to be a part of with many great knowledgeable members who are more then willing to jump in and help you with any questions you may have.
Welcome. If these chicks are Cornish they are not a good buy to keep for eggs. These are an obese chicken breed with lots of health problems if they grow up to adulthood.
If you want to process them you better not give antibiotics or other medicines that gets in the meat. Better wait until the ‘cold’ is over imo.
If you want chickens for laying eggs and keep them to give them a long and good life , you can look for heritage breeds.
