Favorite Chicken Breed

Well...since the wife took the Shamos already...I'll go with the thais... Great personalities, and follow you around like the shamos do. I like the range of colors that come outta our thai lines...

Lay medium tinted eggs, better layers than the shamo, but still seasonal (gamefowl for ya)...

It is hard to pick! i think that I love my silver phoenixes because they are stunning, but personality I'd have to go with my modern game hens! both are very chatty and interactive.
btw, I always thought that shamos looked kindof scary but cool, a bit like dinasaurs!!

OK...can someone explain what the difference is between:

Shamos
Asils (Aseels)
Malay

They all look like they have the same body type...I'm sure that's just a coincidence and there are other traits I'm missing. Help?

Why is it your favorite Breed? they look awesome, I like their history, and I like the oriental breeds
How often does she lay? probably one of the least productive chickens
& how big are her eggs? small to medium

Shamos have pea combs, roosters can approach 12lbs. They stand very upright with tails carried below the horizontal.

You can see that the line of the back and the tail almost form a straight line

Malays have a strawberry comb, roosters approach 9 to 11lbs. When they stand you should see three curves, one from head to shoulders, one from shoulders to tail and the length of the tail is the third. Curving tail is carried at the horizontal.

She's walking so it's not the best picture but you can see the three segmentations; neck curve, body curve, tail curve.

Asils or Aseels in the US are the Reza type with roosters approaching 6lbs. They are pea combed with tails carried at the horizontal. They lack the uprightness of the Shamo and the three curve ideal of the Malay.

I have Silkies, Buff Orpingtons, Ameracaunas, Cuckoo Marans, Barred Rocks, and 1 lonely Old English Game Bantam (her boyfriend flew away...)

I love the Silkies, they are so adorable and soft and my rooster is the sweetest little guy and has a beautiful crow.
Our little OEG banty is unbelievably calm and tame, my 5 year old daughter adores her and holds are all the time.

As far as the most practical chicken, I'd have to go with the Buff Orpingtons. My girls are so sweet and tame, love to be petted and held. They are beautiful. They are great layers of big brown eggs. I hear they are broody (I'm hoping one of mine will be). and they are great meat birds as well. My rooster, Clyde (RIP) was my beloved pet. He was a real puppy dog of a roo and had the best personality. He'd follow everyone everywhere. Tragically, he was attacked by some dogs that came on our property. I miss him so much...

English Game and OEG bantams I think they have the most personality. Very intelligent. Not such great layers though.
