A little update on the lone serama. I wasn't really sure what I would wake to as he seemed so weak. Well jokes on me. He was just a chirping away and sitting holding his head up. I transferred him to the brooder as he seemed so sad. Everyone greeted him and they all went back to their heat plate and now sleeping. I'll grab a picture a little later after he sleeps and mingles a little.

Yay!!! I love a happy ending!! He was probably just extra sleepy from all that work hatching!

I was so excited when I woke to chirping. Hubby said he had been doing it half the night. Incubator and brooder are in our bedroom as it's the most stable and draft free room in the house.

One of the newly hatched chicks appears to have a broken leg. At first I thought it was splayed, though I have honestly never had a problem with this since using shelf liner in the incubators. Not sure how or when that happened. They have been in the drier since hatch about 18 hours. Appears to be at the hock, there was a little blood. This was not the case yesterday as far as I know. It was scooting around on it's belly this morning with the one leg held at a weird angle, when I went to check them, planning to move them all over to the brooder.
I bandaged the leg at the hock and used another bandage to create a hobble. It either falls on it's face or throws the legs behind it. I placed it in a cup inside the drier while I try to figure out what to do. I have no interest in culling this chick, it would be a last resort and only if it was suffering. Anyone have this experience?
I will scour the threads in the meantime to see if I can find others that have posted with a similar situation.

I spotted your hatch here. They look amazing! I would have liked to end up with a few blacks in the place of the 55 Flowery, but I’m not remotely unhappy with my mix. We shipped fl to mt.

I candled a few last night to check fertility as most of these were shipped eggs & the other 3 are from my chicken & our new rooster. I hadn’t seen him mate with her but I guess they’re going at it when I’m not looking all that I checked looked good. Tomorrow night (day 6) I plan to weigh & candle all of them. Our humidity seems to be doing better in the Little Giant bator than it was in the el cheapo with the last hatch. our hatch rate is better this time

Oh no! Is there anything in there that the chick could have been caught on? If it's bleeding it sounds as though it was injured on something. Just like any other living thing with bones, it's certainly possible for a chick to break a leg, splay leg or slipped tendons are more commonly seen in a controlled environment like an incubator where nothing could have stepped on it. Was the hock joint swollen and was there a cut or anything that could be seen where the blood was? I don't see it in the image.
If the chick is sore it's possible it just needs to recover from whatever happened but if you start to see swelling I would lean towards slipped tendons being more likely.

Also be sure to keep an eye to make sure the chick doesn't overheat in the mug. I use containers when necessary too but sometimes they can heat up more than outside of the mug.

I put it in this little homemade chick chair and will put it in the “ICU” with the red heat lamp for heat for now.
Ii is very lively and active and very unhappy about being put in the chair sling.
