Awesome source, although it is geared more towards chicken eggs and mine are ducks. never knew the way you store them could make such a big difference!

I have two hens super broody and no rooster so I broke down and bummed some eggs from a friend. I was not really wanting chicks at this time but just candled the eggs and now I have serious chick fever. 74 hrs in and 2of the 4 have obvious veins, the 3rd has an air port but can't see veins, the 4th is clear so far and also looks pretty porous so...

Have about 8 chicks now. Light sussex and the salmon faverolles have hatched so far. Waiting on some other breeds to hatch as well as the rest of those. It was fun to wake up this morning to see that two chicks had popped their tops so to speak. Precious little creatures!

1 hatched early so I had to give it a mirror for company, but they all like admiring their reflections.

My brooder team have about 15 days to go. Is it too early to get the towels and boiling water?

Ended up hatching 10 out of 22 eggs. The rest quit around day 10 after I candles them last.

Is this normal? One side of the egg is white, while the rest is red.

If it's early in the incubation then yes, that's normal. Soon there will be veins going all through the egg as the embryo grows, but for now it's restricted to the yolk.
