february hatch along

Pics
Guys... none of the other 5 eggs have pipped yet, so little Friday is still lonely:confused:
I don’t know why they haven’t started yet, because yesterday I heard on of the chicks peeping in it’s shell. Now when I put any of them up to my ear, I hear nothing Or maybe faint pecking? Does anyone know why the other five are so late?

Are these shipped eggs?

In my limited experience a decrease in tapping noise and peeping has never been a good sign. Usually indicating the chick is weakening and not going to hatch. After erroring both ways I only "help" now if they've had an external pip for over 24 hours without progress. Some people do go into unpipped eggs but I've always done more harm than good doing this. By harm I mean killed chicks that probably would have made it had I just left them alone. There is a lot of development going on in these last few hours. Many ways to go wrong. Which is how I came to my rule of they must externally pip. That way there is no guessing if they've absorbed all the yolk and blood necessary for survival.

This is just one of the eggs, but I think all of them look like this. Is the air sac on top supposed to be that big? Also, I don’t have a proper candling light so I cant really see much below the air sac. Is this normal? I’m not sure... but Friday is doing amazing.

Thank you for the help, and also these eggs were laid by my own flock

Yes. Very normal. Perfectly positioned for pipping.

Hi, I started 6 eggs in an incubator late in the day on the 22nd..I ended up with 4 viable on lockdown, and I had one hatch on Thursday..Im in the same boat as you River, as i have 3 eggs left and no signs of anything and little Thursday bird is lonely and runs to the window of the brooder peeping to see us. I haven't tried candling yet, as i don't have a "real candler" so i don't know how much I would actually see.

Looking at the pics I'd say they just need more time. That first one looks like it still has a large unabsorbed blood vessel. Difficult to tell from a pic but I'm pretty sure that's what I'm seeing.
Yes I think so. It’s hard to tell since my camera is so bad but there was a weird dark thing in the egg. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

I’m glad we can relate, and I really hope our chicks hatch. Best of luck to you, and I’m sorry I can’t give you any extra tips. I’m not exactly a chicken expert yet:)

My parents hatched chicks when I was little and this is my first hatch on my own so I'm not an "eggs pert"either. I will keep you posted if anything happens..my sis who hatches some each spring says to wait till day 25 at least, I also read somewhere that if you collect and store the eggs before setting, it could result in later hatches... I got my eggs from my parents coop over 3 days and stored them in my garage before putting in the incubator, I wasn't sure how long they had sat in their coop so maybe thats whats going on
