I do the same thing but I apply the shingles (feed bags) slightly differently... how often do you change out the bags? do you keep these coops in the shade? I had issues with the sun decomposing the bags a bit rapidly but I have an endless supply of bags so no big deal. Currently none of my roofs are feed bag roofs (I tend to replace them with real roofs when I come across materials to make a decent roof), if I build one any time soon I was i'll show how mine are done. This is our quail pen. I just filled one up today for a potato grow bag. I turned it inside out so that it was solid white. Then i put some holes in it for drainage. I put the potato eyes at the bottom and it’s rolled down until i need to start hilling it. I saw it on a blog i think and she said she put the whole thing a wheel barrow when they are ready to harvest and just cuts the side of the bag so she can easily pick out the potatoes.I haven’t been doing this long enough to think about the bags, but I think they’d make good grow bags.
They are under a tree but way they are facing the sun beats on the front of the coop towards the end of the day. Its been up for like 6 months and still like new. Would love to see new ways of doing it. The roof is temporary i hope, untill we find cheap metal roofing panels. But this works really well so we may keep thisI do the same thing but I apply the shingles (feed bags) slightly differently... how often do you change out the bags? do you keep these coops in the shade? I honestly believe your roofing job is better than mine at least as far as neatness goes. I will likely keep doing it my way because it works and I do not fix something that isn't broke. I keep the bags as intact as possible with the open end down incase the first layer leaks the 2nd layer will run out of the open end of the bag. It can look a bit messy my way and your way looks neat and clean. They are under a tree but way they are facing the sun beats on the front of the coop towards the end of the day. I'd love to see this returning....if I could sew. I've never been able to properly wrestle with a sewing machine.![]()
