Feedback on the current Like system...

I can't make that comparison with driving and BYC and say Facebook ...other than this is a site I enjoy and the owners have a slight income inequity....

I'm with you there...and, I'm no fan of the book of face...no.fan.at.all.

I'm a long time user of FB and brand new to BYC. Not familiar with the old system here. I've never thought of likes as a popularity contest or status symbol. It basically lets you know who saw your post. That's what I always used it for, to acknowledge that I saw it. Same here, I like personal replies to my threads, I like when I agree with someone in a thread not mine, and I like lots of pictures because, well, I like pictures! To think that the number of likes you receive here is directly related to how important you are here is scary! Anyone with questions, concerns and advice about poultry is important!

It allowed you to make sure you reached new people with, in my case, my limited knowledge

The old system had three types of membership:

• Regular
• Gold
• Platinum

The number of ovations one could give per day depended on your membership:

• Regular - 10 per day
• Gold - 20 per day
• Platinum - 30 per day

It took me almost five years and 50K posts to accumulate 5000 ovations!

We need one of these too then!!!

I can think of one or two situations where it would have devolved into a metaphorical fist-fight if I hadn't just decided the conversation wasn't worth it to me. A dislike button would not have helped.

Might have made me feel better though.

I do like being able to see the number of likes people have. You couldn't see them with the old system.
