If you mixed the spray and applied it properly to the hens and the coop, nesting boxes, and perches, I doubt you have to worry about bugs.I am prepared to worm her today. Would worming her hurt her if she does not have worms... other than the feather problem ? someone said to do an examination. How would I know if she has mites? I've given her two treatments of permethrin so I can't imagine that she would still have mites.
before I read your comment I put 1 teaspoon of safeguard on for a little cubes of bread. She would not eat them. I added some milk Kiefer and she played with it for a little while, probably ingesting some but definitely not all of the medicine. I have watched for her to poop but haven't seen any yet. when I came back out from mixing up the medicine there was a fresh pile of poop that could have been hers or one of the other 3 girls. It had little teeny maybe 1/4 inch thread like things in it. they were not moving. in all of my research I have not seen a picture that looks like these. They were thin and teeny. If you mixed the spray and applied it properly to the hens and the coop, nesting boxes, and perches, I doubt you have to worry about bugs.
Check every square inch of her body, which means parting the feathers and checking the skin. Check for new feather growth, bugs, lumps, discoloration. Feel her crop... Is it empty, full, sloshy, etc.
Maybe put her in a cage on paper towels until she poop, then get some poop pictures.
Depending on what's ailing her, worming might not be a good idea. How long are you out of town for?
those pictures are from today. She doesn't look horrible, no. But she looks abnormal. She still has a healthy appetite and is drinking water and kefir. she's lost some hackle feathers, some feathers at the top of her head and some saddle feathers. There are definitely Gretel feathers on the ground. She's just not herself, acting lethargic. Are these pictures from today?
She doesn't look like she is molting or has horrible feather loss.
no roosters. She is now back picking at the medicine laced bread. What kind of worm, if any, would be the short very skinny threadlike white thing? Is that a rooster behind her?
