Filling the incubator 6-3-2011 Join me for my 1st attempt?

I just want to cry right now. I went to bed at 11:30 and just woke up at 1:30 to find the bator spiked to 106!!! I'm so afraid I just cooked the eggs and lost them all. What the heck is with the temp spike??? It was at 99.8 when I went to bed. What the heck?! We haven't quite completed day 2, more like day 1.5.... I feel absolutely sick, that this may be over before we even got started.

Have you candled the eggs? I have had the opposite happen. Last winter on our coldest night we lost power. It was around 2 weeks into incubation. The power had already been off for a couple of hours when I discovered the power was off, my incubator temp was 78 degrees. Luckily I had a battery pack and an inverter. I plugged the incubator into it and got the temp back up. After a couple of more hrs the power came back on. I candled the eggs and saw movement. I still had a good hatch.

I just noticed you just put the eggs into the incubator. Wait several days and then candle. Don't give up yet!!!

I am joining you in this hatch. I put some Pheasant eggs in my incubator last weekend and yesterday I put some chicken eggs in it. Pheasant eggs take longer to incubate so they should all be hatching out at about the same time. Don't know how the fertility is on the pheasant eggs. The fellow I got them from lost his 2 prize cocks. He has other cocks.

Oh no so sorry to hear about your spike. Don't give up keep going sometimes temp spikes will just make them hatch early because they develop quicker. Also the internal egg temp might not be at 106 just because your bator got that high. All we can do is keep trying.

I spent the rest of my night getting up every hour to check on the temp... and go figure it stays at 99.8... ugh. A watched pot never boils, but I guess the same goes for an incubator. As soon as you turn your back on it.... up she goes. We are closing on day 2 (10a.m.), I'll wait a few days and start candling. In the meantime I'm praying like crazy that I didn't hurt any of them

. There would have been 2 hours max that the temp would have been that high, but probably more like an hour....

Of course we have tetras in the kids rooms, they are practically indestructable!

May I join you guys? I just set them last night. This is too my first time hatching eggs (for me, Cayuga duck eggs). Stitch, I had a similar experience last night, except I managed to fix it. It wasn't pleasant but I stayed up till about 1 am adjusting the temperature until it got back to normal. I realized if i went to sleep it would have spiked up to around 107. I even got so paranoid I woke up at 4 am and checked and saw that the temperature was alright, thank god! Right now its cold so its been 99.5 but I made it go up to 100.4. I hope you have good luck and I hope I can just get some of my 11 eggs to hatch!
