They were very small, but had the deep yellow, almost orange yolks that I was hoping for! And I got two more little eggs today! Finally!!!

So my daughter says my chicken Juliette is making a really loud noise and is in the coop messing around in the nest boxes. I ask her if it's bok, bok, BABAWK and she says yes.

And, not in the nest box, but in the corner of the coop is:

Later, after showing it to my husband, the guy at the feed store, etc...

And, I can see (although not really in the pic) that it's a fertilized egg, so my rooster is not all talk and klutziness.

Since it was leaky and dirty and I didn't feel it was safe to eat, I poached it and fed it to the mom and pop chickens. They LOVED it. So it was their first egg too, in more ways than 1.

The mom - Juliette's the black one

The pop - Princess

although they're older now.

Question: The white was super thick. There was a little bit of watery substance that leaked through the cut-like openings in the soft shell (just a couple of drops), then the rest didn't spread at all. When I poached it, it was the shape of a hard boiled egg! Is this normal?

Grats! Yes, that is the way an egg-white is supposed to look, as nature intended! People are used to store-bought eggs, which are weeks old, and have started to decompose, making them super runny.

My girls laid shell-less eggs on their first try to. Yours might rest tomorrow, but I almost 100% guarentee a perfect shelled egg within two days.! BTW, I love your male sex-link. Bless you for taking the little guy in, most of his kind are thrown away by hatcheries at just a few days old.

Sounds like she's ready- open those boxes!

Is there any other reason why she would be crying like that?

My SS screams when she is ready to lay an egg.

I don't poach my eggs, but the thick whites and the yolk standing tall are signs of a fresh egg. Not to mention the nice yolk color.

BTW, I have to have a talk with you.................. your rooster is named Princess?

Lemme guess, your daughter named him?

Poor guy is going to get a complex.

He actually came with the name. We got him from somebody who didn't like him and his daughter age 4 had named him. My daughter's 23 and we think it's funny. My husband and sons are deeply offended and want me to change his name. But he acts like a little princess (not in a good way, either). Sadly, all the male pets in my household are little crybabies and the females are the ones with the gonads who tough things out! So, he's keeping the name!

Hahaha, I just shared Princess's name with my SO. We have a rooster named Lady.

The SO always tells me that he's going to have a complex, but so far, he's a mighty fine rooster! He was supposed to be a pullet, so his punishment for being a roo is keeping the name.

I love the punishment...my very beautiful black and white EE turned out to be a roo. I think he looked masculine from the beginning, even when we thought he was a pullet we named it hawk. That was what the markings looked like. I was mad only because I only got 2 EEs and now I will only get one blue/green egg.

I can hardly wait for that pretty egg to show up.
