Found our first emu egg today in the open field, no nest...what to I do?
1.Leave it as is?
2.Build a nest lol ?
3. Should I wait until more eggs show up until the male will start building a nest?
My intention is to have them hatch and raise the babies naturally.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to see the egg go to waste.
Thanks in advance

Where did you find the egg? Was it near the fence line or just out in the middle? Someone told me that the first timers may lay just anywhere. If u don't see him bothering w/it after a day or so I would pick it up.

It was by the fence , where they usually roost at tight, but there is no nest. I will go look at it today, just to make sure it's safe. There is a somewhat of a hill side and I am scared that the egg could roll down .

In most everything I have heard, read or pictures I've seen They lay by or near the fence line. I think they only lay every 3 days. Wait and see if another comes. I have been looking for eggs and none yet hopefully soon. Good Luck!

Those Emu look so huge next to you!

Nice to see the nice egg from the Dwarf Emu next to that regular emu egg!

Mine like to lay near fence lines, and once they get really started they can lay every other day or so. The nest can be a shallow depression in the ground with a pine needle or two over it or it can be a bunch of leaves etc... Make sure they have something to use, leaves, hay ...etc.. I would leave it there for awhile. It took about 5 eggs before Merlin started to sit them.
