First Emu Egg- Need Help!

Quote:
Thank you for reply. We have 2 eggs now, looks like she lay every 3 days for now. I want to wait until there are at least 5 or more and I will take few for the incubator. I saw very small twigs around the egg,we collected some leaves and left them near the nest for the father Emu.
I know that the egg could be fine for about 7-10 days, but if dad is waiting to have 8+ eggs in the nest until he will start sitting on them aren't the first eggs will go bad?
I guess I worry to much, just like any first time mommy

My goats and sheep follow them and if I give them hay, goats and sheep will be all over their nest

I have to think of something.. We piled some dry leaves around the area, hopping they will start using them.

It looks just like a pigeon nest does! They never use any padding and just pile on the sticks on rock ledges in the wild, so I should think those tough emu eggs can handle it.

My goats eat off the ground as well. I just through the hay out in piles for them to cut down the squabbles.

Heaven forbid they eat it after it has been stepped on, though.
