First time hatching eggs

Another egg was out of the nest this morning and cold so I candled it and the air sac seemed to move slightly from side to side but was mostly still. When I crack it, it looked like this:

There is membrane all round the inside of the shell then this flap what is that?

I can't really make out what you have there. But there is an inner membrane and an outer membrane. I assume you have a spot where the outer membrane pulled away from the inner side of the shell??

Thanks yes, I guess that could have been it, would that have stopped anything from developing?

I candled them all today and there was nothing so I cracked them all and there was no development in any of them. Most of them didn't have an obvious bullseye so I don't know if the cockerel isn't doing his job, I will wait now until she starts laying and then check those eggs to see if they are fertile.

Aww sorry to hear that. Sounds like she was committed to it, so that was a least a good test. Hopefully taking the eggs from her will break her broodiness and she will lay again soon.

Thanks she is out of the nest now, I couldn't convince her off of her empty nest. But now she is out cuddles up with the cockerel. I think I will wait until the weather is warmer next time and just enjoy eating her eggs when she starts laying again

It's a week since I took the eggs away and my hen still isn't laying. She stopped her broody behaviour a few hours after I took the eggs. When is she likely to start again?
