It’s been a battle with Rascal and something is really wrong with him this time. His cycle crashed hard after some medication and I didn’t keep checking parameters like I should’ve, so his nitrites were unbelievably high and I initially think he got nitrite burns ( if that’s a thing, I can’t get a definite answer. could it be saddleback disease? ) and now I think an infection has set in and fin rot. Poor boy is stubbornly hanging on as this whole shitshow started around January. I’ve tried getting kanaplex ( it’s on the way ) but couldn’t wait, so Im dosing his tank with maracyn 1 & 2. I know they’re hard on his organs but it’s all I have on hand other than paracleanse and ICH X. Should I try adding aquarium salt to his tank too? View attachment 3002305View attachment 3002302

EDIT: pic when he was heathy for comparison View attachment 3002308View attachment 3002309
So. I had to make the decision to put Rascal down yesterday. Nothing I did made whatever he had better and at the end, his whole body looked “eaten away”. He developed dropsy and was pineconing, so I called it quits.

S.I.P. Rascal

Anubis and Java fern tolerate low-light levels and will probably do alright long-term in that aquarium, but the various sword plants and moss ball probably won't. It's probably why the ball isn't emerald green and the swords are browning and melting. Although it's possible the swords are shedding their terrestrial leaves for their aquatic ones. I can't make out the fine-leaved plant in the back right, But they'll benefit from a little flow or an occasional shake to be sure no debris is sitting on the leaves to keep them from properly photosynthesizing. You may want to add a new/larger light to the tank if you want the plants to do well. :)

the moss ball is fake. Its supposed to absorb nitrite. The anubus and java fern are doing really good, they're 8 months old. For the rest, I throw stuff in there and hope it lives. Idk what i'm doing. The stuff in the right back corner is my favorite but I have no idea what its called.
