Fish Thread

I got a 20 gallon tank!
There will be a 40 gallon sponge filter for the filteration.
The place im getting the fish from has a specific gravel they use to i will be getting that. Its not to big, but not as fine as sand. They have plants growing like crazy.
They only had 2 male bettas and i dont have a tank ready.
But they keep the females together when they have them. And they will order some in for me. Then they keep the males with guppies or dwarf gouramis and they all are really healthy. So im thinking of doing 2 female bettas, 2 gouramis or some male guppies(im still deciding) and some shrimp. If i dont do gouramis ill do another small fish.
Ill havr to update as i start the tank

I think im going to do 3 corydoras, a few blue dream( blue velevet) or cherry shrimp.

The people that own the store im getting the fish from keep the male bettas with guppies but i dont really want to do guppies. The female bettas they have kept with gouramis and otherwise they keep the female bettas in the same tank together.
But ive seen everywhere that bettas ang gouramis dont do well together.

Would a betta(maybe 2), 2 sparkling gouramis, 6 cory catfish and shrimp be overstocking a 20 gal?

I dont want to do tetras but i could do rasboras. And i love guppies, but id only be able to males as i dont really want constant breeding.

I'd say definitely do 6 cories or more. They're fish that do best with more of their kind. As far as overstocking or not goes, although it's slightly outdated, try aqadvisor (or aquadvisor, can't remember)

I planned to get 6 cories due to the schooling. Maybe eventually get a bigger tank.

So on Aqadvisor i did says 2 female bettas, 1 gourami(i may check the peacock gudgeons but they are hard to find around here), 4 blue shrimp, and 6 pygmy corys and it says 56%
But i have to check the tank dimensions and if they were right
