fleas everywhere on my dog

My experience with treatments like Frontline is they're only effective if used before there's a problem. I use it when the weather starts turning warm and then stop once winter rolls around, and that keep fleas in check in my area.

I agree with the others, it sounds like you might have an infestation inside the house or wherever your dog sleeps, and if that's the case the entire area needs to be treated to wipe out the flea population. If you really aren't seeing too much evidence of fleas in the environment, it might be something else in conjunction with the fleas that's causing the itching. One of my old dogs had severe skin issues that flared up all the time, so even a couple of fleas would cause him to break out in rashes. In my case the vets never figured out what was wrong with him, but we mostly managed his condition with diet and vigilant grooming.

IDK how true it is, but hay is not the best bedding for dogs. I learned this 65 years ago and never used it. I was told that hay promotes fleas..

we get some flea and tick treatment for our two dogs from the vet..
see the picture in my avatar.
she is over 90 pounds, the male is bigger.
the treatment is very expensive.
but it deters ticks, and kills any that are already on a dog.
we lost a dog like the one in the avatar to lymes disease. how expensive was that ??
very expensive.. after months of treatment from the vet.. a mis-diagnosed opinion from the first vet.. and watching the dog gradually get weaker and in pain.. and then to lose her in the end anyway..

IMHO Frontline is fine for city dogs who seldom come in contact with ticks in the first place..

keep your dog away from you and your house or the tick will get on you and your things call a vet asap clean out anything your dog touched and where he went.

Remember that topical flea and tick preventatives and things like the seresto collar work best when the dog does not swim or come in contact with water (like from baths). If your dog is an outdoor dog, then you may consider something oral like Nexgard or Bravecto. These are not dependent on coat condition or the oils in the skin for disbursement so the dog can swim or be bathed as much as they want without affecting the efficacy of the preventative.

Capstar is a good one one to kill fleas quick but you will have to see a vet to get it. The effectiveness of this is also dependent on cleaning the environment too.
