You are preaching to the choir here.

I think the bulk of our gov't officials are corrupt and out of touch with how most Americans live. I think every ballot should include a "none of the above" box so we can get these guys out of office. From the top down toss them out and put normal people in office. Sadly, that will never happen.

I don't know anything about the FL governor or his business dealings. I figure you guys in Florida know better than I. I was merely passing on what CNN had said about his profits from this legislation. It may or may not be true.

Ok, so they get their bills paid and the moneys they get from what ever goes to drugs.... still enabling. Pull your pants up and be a big boy or girl.

Funny you say that... DH was talking to his aunt (recently married his uncle) and she was talking about when she worked for a tax service and this woman, think she had three kids, was complaining that she wasn't getting enough... mind you her bennies totaled way more than DH brings home in a year... and so she figured it was about time to have another kid. Aunt was shocked to say the least... she didn't have a clue that stuff like that REALLY happened... just thought it was hoaxy stuff put out by the side who wants to cut benefits... but seeing with her own eyes really made her wonder. I was already wondering so this was really just another nail in the coffin.

Honestly I think benefits should be handled by local charities... because that's what it is, charity. And when handled on the local level a lot more care is taken... in making sure those who need it get it and in making sure that those who abuse the system don't get away with it... and make sure the kids, if any, aren't being used as pawns and then left to starve... because that is their community, those are their people, and they actually care. The same just is not true about folks in DC or state capitals... they've nothing in common with the people they're thinking of adding/cutting benefits to... it's just a game to them, a power trip, a way to stay in a cushy job.

But since welfare seems to be something we're stuck with then we really do need to do what we can to prevent abuse of it. That helps NO ONE... least of all the people who live solely on that, instead of becoming productive members of society, by choice... and initiate their children into it as well... how many are doomed to repeat that life just because they know no better?? Scary thought.

But as to exactly how we can fix that... with a National system... I don't claim to know. But I think drug testing is a step in the right direction. Back to saves one child... especially if the child saved is MINE because a user wakes up and gets help and doesn't end up robbing and killing my kid...

Perhaps, we could also stipulate that the State of Florida mandate automatic sterility to recieve welfare.

Now this, though another violation of civil rights, would interests me....but only if it were the fathers of the children who were sterilized. After all, they are the ones not fulfilling their monetary obligations to these children, causing them to be living in a single income household, thus requiring assistance. Some of these men have fathered many children on welfare, whereas one woman on welfare usually would have mothered only a handful of children.

My ex-husband has fathered over 9 children, with 5 different women, and still counting, and has provided for none of these financially....definitely should be required sterilization there!
