Florida woman in "sheer terror" of duck??

Read the article; apparently the drake wanders into the church parking lot and tries to defend it as his territory. I get the impression that no one at that church had thought that animal was cute in quite some time since it apparently is an ongoing problem.

i don't know about your area but as far as i know, EVERY place i've gone to it is illegal to feed any wild/feral animals! squirrels and wild bird populations included! we are a allowed to have feeders out but when it becomes a nuisance in a particular area they can make you remove any feeders for 'population safety'.

more people need to be aware that they should NEVER approach an animal that is not on someones private property and/or the owner is not around to observe for issues. you never know how that animal would react to you or other people. i let an animal come to me if it wants to but i still look for behaviors as it approaches if it is not one of my own animals or from someone i know.

i'm going to assume that this lady thought the duck was cute and attempted to walk over and check it out when it 'attacked' her. now if it was a goose or swan i could imagine it being MUCH worse for her since those can do some damage to skin! ouch!

Where I live, it's not illegal to feed animals, but highly discouraged. Feeding is tolerated at the lake I go to because there's so many abandoned ducks there that would starve otherwise. I don't like that they feed the squirrels, though, but they keep the hawks busy and actually save a lot of ducklings and other birds that way. But, some people don't use common sense and actually feed dangerous animals like coyotes and foxes.

But, I agree with you, you have to approach strange animals carefully or not at all. Look for signs that they're uncomfortable such as hissing or wing-flapping.

I believe people are very arrogant and it makes me mad seeing this kind of thing... this is a duck, that lady is a human - so the duck was defending its girls/territory and a lady who would of been 10 times bigger than him ran for her life...?
People do not rule this world, its free for animals, too. Because the lady wasn't welcome doesn't mean she should have the right to discriminate the ducks and want them removed.

I have muscovies, and I completely agree about the docile part... the only ever time my drake got agressive was when my duck was on her nest and the dog was sniffing around too close. He hissed, bit and chased her away... but not very far, only out of the pen.

To be honest, I don't think a duck would attack or chase someone like that unprovoked, they seem to have been there long enough that they wouldn't suddenly wake up one day and hurt somebody.

Plus, like mentioned, these guys are ducks - not dogs or cats, its not in their nature to hurt. They are also a prey animal. Looking at my ducks groom each other right now, this just seems silly

...And I'm sorry... but LOL!!!!! 'now, we dont want to get too close, but see that duck?'...'people were told to stay in their car' -while the duck is having a bath in the puddle- 'This may look innocent enough, but this duck here...is dangerous..'
