You all should really try to call your feed stores in your state that are within your driving distances.
I get my 50# bags for around $20 give or take!!

Its to expencive to buy it online when you can possably get it locally!

Oh geeze! another dreaded DE thread! Why is this stuff so controversial?! I use DE, I like it, it works for me. Not environmentally safe? Heeellloooo, most of the stuff in everybody's houses, (cleaning products, fabric softeners, paint, fuel, treated water, processed foods, microwave ovens, body lotion, etc) are not environmentally safe! How many of you spray pure poison (mosquito spray) on your selfs, but you don't like DE because a bee might die?! Believe me, more bees die on my windshield than are killed by DE.

If you haven't read anything about the crisis honey bees are facing I would read up. Very interesting stuff. Did you know that 1/3 of the food you eat is there because of honey bees?

That being said I neither use DE nor claim to be an expert on it but now knowing that it could harm nature's little pollinators I'd be hesitant to use it in the future.

Our neighbor lost his hives due to the Colony Collapse Disorder two years before I ever knew what food grade DE was.

That being said, most all of use that do chose to use it, use it in extereme moderation. I don't use it on or in my flower beds and we still see a few honey bees here, but not like we did when we first moved here, 7 years ago. Do I feel like I've contributed to the bee problem...absolutely NOT because of just how careful I am when I apply it to outdoor usage.

I've given up lots of plants this year to the slug population because I refuse to use it around my flowers where I know the declining bee population will be hanging out.

Please check out my food grade DE page that explains exactly how and where I do and don't use it.

I don't even mean to sound hateful but I get so tired of people claiming "how bad it is" when there are so many other pesticides/herbicides being used and no one seems to think they are so wrong.

Getting off the soap box, yet again!!!

I get a kick out of all the naysayers who belittle the use of DE! There are very few people in these United States that have not taken it internally! It is used in products such as Bisquick and Breakfast Cereals to prevent "caking"! Because it is added to grain before milling, it is not required to be listed in the ingredients. For those of you who cannot find it in smaller quantities locally, I sell PermaGrade Codex Food GradeDE at the following prices:

3 pounds - 15.30
5 pounds - 18.30
8 pounds - 22.30

PermaGuard does make a non-food grade DE. Their Codex Food Grade DE is FDA approved.
Add 1.00 for PayPal and please remember that 9.30 of these prices go to the USPS for Priority Flat Rate Mail!
Pm me if you are interested. Thanx!

I DON'T THINK WHEN GUMPSGIRL POSTED THAT SHE TOUGHT IT WOULD TURN INTO THIS. THIS SOUNDS CLOSE TO A JERRY SPRINGER SHOW. COME ON NOW, I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING ON THE NEWS LATELY ABOUT HONEY BEES BEING ON THE ENDANGERED LIST. O.K. WITH THAT SAID, YOU MAY LIVE IN A HEAVY POLLINATION AREA WHERE THERE ARE LOTS OF HONEY BEES, BUT I LIVE IN AN AREA WHERE THERE ARE FEW HONEY BEES, I'M SURE. I RARELY SEE ANY AND WHEN I DO I KILL THEM BECAUSE I AM ALLERGIC TO BEES OF ANY SORT. I KNOW OF PEOPLE SEVERAL MILES FROM ME THAT RAISE BEES FOR THE HONEY, BUT FOR THE WIND TO BLOW THE DE I USE IN MY COOP MORE THAN 10 MILES TO THE BEES.........WELL YOU FIGURE. COME ON NOW PEOPLE, SOME HUMANS ARE ENVIROMENTALLY UNSAFE. THIS IS MY

STACEY HAD GIVEN ME A LITTLE IN A BAGGIE, UNTIL I COULD GET SOME, AND IT WORKED ALMOST INSTANTLY, THE SMELL AND THE FLIES WERE GONE WITHIN MINUTES. THANKS STACEY FOR PARTING WITH A BAGGIE FULL, I'LL GET IT BACK TO YOU.
THANKS SPATCHER FOR THE DELIVERY YESTERDAY, I USED SOME IN OUR DOG LOT AND ON OUR COMPOST PILE.

Check out your feed stores, that is where I get mine.

But make sure it is food grade. DH bought a bag a couple a weeks ago, and it is NOT food grade. I told him, and he said he didn't even think about it. Next time he will specify food grade and check the bag.

Now back to reading all the posts.
