I am among the people that do vote. I make it a point.

I am a part of this community my family lives in. I try very hard to
be among the leaders. Very little happens that my family is not aware
of on a local level.

I promise you that I know all of our local politicians. Those in office, and
those who ran and lost. I make it a point to know these people, to know
about these people.

I am active in our local politics. Not to the extent of me actually running for
an office: I have neither the time nor desire. But you look around, I'll be at
the town meetings, or may pop in on a schoolboard meeting. Or may just be
over the neighbors back fence.

We may discuss issues from the local level to the state level or even on the
federal level.

I believe that each one of us are a part of the community that we choose to
live in. And that it is up to each one of us to do our part towards making our
communities a desireable place to live.

Exercising your right to vote is important. Its just as important to know and
understand what you are voting for, or against. How will your vote play out
in your world?

Today I read in the newspaper where two nearby countys failed to pass their
4-H levys. Other accounts where a fire, or police, levy failed.

How will that play out when these children have nowhere else to go? Or some
familys home burns?

Or judges who record lets the bad guy go free?

Sure...Lets vote for the senators who sent our jobs overseas.

This post isn't political in the context that I don't care what party any of us
voted for or against. I don't care what party you are. I'm just saying that I
consider it important that you know the reasons you vote for or against a
candidate or an issue.

I once voted for a person by party (a governor, quite a few years ago), and lived to regret it as he was a complete embarrassment. So if I do not have a strong opinion on the choice, I will leave it blank or write-in someone that I think woud do a better job. When multiple positions are open (for example, school board, city council, etc.), I sometimes vote for fewer people than I am allowed, giving the person I do vote for more weight.

A oldtimer asked me if I was going to vote and I said maybe.
He said "Well it is a free country, to vote or not is up to you, but if you want it to remain a free country......vote.

I agree with this wholeheartedly! I just feel that my part includes the things I currently do for my community and may not necessarily include getting involved in the political scene. The things I do definitely make my community a more desirable place to live and there are many in the community not currently taking part in the things that I do....but I do not push my part onto others just because I feel it is a good thing to do.

It is a good thing to do and I am doing it...and, sure, it would be great if there were more people doing it. But, guess what? Not my business nor is it my part to tell others what their part in my community should be. We each have a part to play....my part just does not include politics.

Did I use the word "part" enough in that statement?

You're all gonna hate me.

I love politics. Every Sunday morning I'm drinking coffee, on BYC, and watching every single political show I can get. If I miss a show I go back later in the week and watch on the internet. Right now my favorite is the McLaughlin Group.
Now Washington is almost completely mail in, hate it. I liked going to the polls. Back before Washington had primaries I attended the caucuses, was a precinct delegate, and a state delegate. I can always find something to get excited about.
It was funny- on Sunday I was filling out my ballot and was extremely disappointed that I couldn't vote in a couple of the House races that i was interested in.
I think it's in my soul. Poly Sci was my favorite class in HS. and when I was 17, I traveled from Alaska to DC to study the gov't.

Imp- I even like the negative ads, just don't like that they are repeated ad nauseum.

BTW- I do not vote in those boring judge races, well unless there's something political involved.

Let the smackdown begin.
