For those of you don't vote....

I agree, all elections are about "who's the best liar" and who runs the best smear campaign. No candidate cares about doing the right thing anymore - only about getting in and setting themselves and their friends up for a lifetime of benefits and funneled money. For voters, it's about running damage control and trying to recover from the current election - that future voters make their decisions on.

Were too far gone politically, as a country, for us to ever hope of recovering fully. Im certainly not a fan of who's running the country now but, in all fairness - it is a mess of unimaginable proportions and it's at least a 2 term solution - no matter WHO got in. Part of the solution is getting rid of corporate greed and the other part is getting people to live realistically within their means...........Neither will happen and the problem will erode our society deeper.

The Hawaiian Islands would be a land base for the Japan military force. Sort of the same as the USA base in Guam. Strategic placement.
Why they thought they could get away with it, I have no idea. There is lots of theories on that one, I have heard some of the theories but I don't really pay too much attention. Only the Japanese military know for sure.
Japan also had a huge military force as well. I believe they had the largest battleships in the world at that time, plus virtually unlimited personal.
They were no competition for the allies though.

That's why we had to drop not one but two nukes on them.

Why do you think Stalin pushed them to surrender? He had more troubles than he could handle. If it wasn't for the winter and the fact that Hitler was fighting on 2 fronts, Hitler would have gone a lot farther. No it was the nukes that made the Japanese surrender (By the way Japs isn't PC).

People have been voting for a long time here and where has it got us? Personally, I can't even figure out who the lesser of two evils are. I've always been registered to vote, but never have.

I think compulsory voting would be bad too. It would just be the loss of another personal freedom.

THAT'S why we should vote!!!! So we won't be forced to vote!

No kidding. Not only were the civilians starving to death, eating bark off trees, abandoning their children in the woods etc. but their soldiers were starving too.
My Sister-in-law's Uncles (German) froze to death because of starvation and inadequete clothing in the march toward the Ural Mountains. Stalin did the Razed Earth policy. Because of that he ended up killing his own people as well.

I think it was Goering that said when asked by a underling How are they going to feed the one million Russian POW's? His answer, we're not, let them starve to death and they did. You can't win a war when one million of your soldiers are captured in one campaign. They ran out of bullets, they couldn't fight back.

There is a very well done 10 hour documentary (1 hour segments) called The Apocolayse World War 2. It is about the very beginning of WW2 to the very end. It is almost a un-biased account covering all nations that participated in WW 2.
Lots of never seen before footage. Hard to watch at times, extremely sobering. Many people feel it should be mandatory viewing in high school history. The younger generation, unless they are interested in history don't really know what went on and why.

A truly horrible time for the human race in general.

Sorry I know we are a little bit off subject,,,, But..
I must agree, my father was there... No Nazi prison camp looked as bad as the Russian soldiers or the Germans in a Russian camp. Russia was used up, most likely it was a very poor decision on our part to not just walk to Moscow and stick the American flag in the ground and claim it. (That is what my father thought they were going to do..)
If Japan saw them as a threat their intelligence was poor, because Russia was a threat to no one.
