Found bird eggs

For all intents and purposes, I'd rather not see someone cause these chicks to have to pull a Cuckoo bird move. They will outcompete whatever is supposed to be there.

The MBTA protects all migratory birds in the US, with a very few exceptions. It's not a state thing, it's a law that was created, long story short, so people wouldn't kill off all the birds in their area for hats, down, or other profitable items. If nobody can have a hat with native bird feathers, there's no demand for feather hats, because what's the use in a hat you can't wear in public?

Abandoned bird eggs should be left to nature. Abandoned baby birds are probably not abandoned, some parents don't visit the nest often to avoid attracting attention. But if it's 100% certain they're abandoned, they should be taken to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. Partly because of legality, partly because baby birds of most non-poultry species are helpless and very, very hard to raise. Even if you had all the supplies, you'd be feeding them probably every 3 hours for a few weeks.

If you see a nest that has no eggs in it, either it's unoccupied, or the owners haven't laid eggs yet. That doesn't mean you can put eggs in the nest. The mother won't be able to care for all the eggs, and if they all hatch, all the babies will starve.

Basically, leave nature alone. It's a nice thought to try to save the eggs, but it's not in anything's best interest.
