I have an 8.5 y/o leghorn and two 3 y/o sexlinks. They recently have had an outbreak of lice, I treated the coop with permethrin and DE and it seems to be much better. They had scaly leg mites and mite bites on their combs as well but I have been doing foot soaks and applying petroleum jelly or coconut oil and vetrx almost daily for about a week and that seems to be clearing up also.
When I was doing one of my daily health checks I noticed that each of the girls have peeling earlobes, wattles and combs. The earlobes are the worst. Even their legs are a bit dry and peeling also. But their earlobes had an entire layer of dead skin peeling. The main reason I noticed this in the first place is because I was inspecting a white dot on one of the 3 y/o’s then I noticed the whole layer of dead skin falling off on her earlobes and then layer a bit on her wattles and comb. This is the same for each of the others, so far only one has a lot of white bumps and another has a few. Could this be dry fowl pox? If so what should I do? As for the dry skin I thought the petroleum jelly and coconut oil would help moisturize but they weren’t peeling for the first week I was applying it.
