Does look like fowl pox on our Sumatra hen? Just noticed this today. She's in our 4H groups coop where other breeds chickens are also housed. Does this spread? Any help identifying this issue......
Yes, it looks like she has fowl pox. In a few weeks it should disappear, I'd suggest separating her until then. Fowl pox is highly contagious. There are creams and things sold for fowl pox, if you're okay with that you can invest in some. But I'd stay organic/natural. Possibly Vaseline? Until an expert suggests Vaseline I wouldn't use it yet... But it's a possibility. She's a pretty hen, good luck, hope this helps!
Welcome to BYC. I agree that it is fowl pox. Do not disturb the scabs or it can spread the pox virus. There is no treatment for the pox scabs, except that I would apply some Terramycin eye ointment or Vetericyn eye gel to the eye with the scab to help prevent eye infection. Make sure that she is eating and drinking well. More rarely, wet fowl pox can cause yellow patches inside the mouth, throat, and crop. Normally, dry fowl pox goes away in a few weeks, but it can slowly spread through the flock.
