I'm so ashamed of myself. I have a customer that was waiting for cuckoo marans in April. She only wanted girls, and wanted them started, that's why I've been trying to set Silas' eggs. I stopped by the feed store today, and they had cuckoo marans sexed chicks...
Yes, I bought chicks

The customer knows, and it's fine, she just didn't want to brood. Silas' flock is a hatchery flock anyway, so she's not losing quality, but it kills me to buy chicks I should be hatching. At least I can go back to full sets of AM eggs

I'm only setting Jack's in the next batch, and will be cracking to check fertility on Johnny's until he improves

If you go that route, consider getting the pump. It's great in a dry climate.

Our humidity is 11% right now and it's windy. Hair is full of static. If I was in lockdown today, I'd definitely have the pump running AND have water in the channels AND paper towels covering the bottom of the incubator.

What do your hatch rates look like?

I need one that people have experience with and good hatch rates, but let me know if you get it and how it works please.

I'm using Frankenbator homemade bator. It works great for me, but it has not done as well since I'm trying to hatch and incubate in it. I have a cheap styro from a friend borrowed, but it has a terrible hatch rate. Maybe I just need to use that one and add a sponge. I think it runs too dry.

I guess I could build another one.....

My wife got it for me for Christmas and we had never incubated before. We started with shipped Silkie eggs in January. I think our hatch rate was 67%. If your just looking for a lockdown incubator I saw the little Giant styro for 59.99.

everything has digital now if it works . sound like a deal . the GQFs have electronic and I opened the case and just went

went on line and ordered the thermostats $90 each and need one more

but the hatcher works good and I'm sure the incubators will too. we will find out on Easter weekend . just going to do a little set of a 150 not many . eggs all over the place got to do something . or make one hell of an omelet . what do you guys worlds biggest omelet east to west cost

Everyone knows how I feel about Brinsea, but cleaning is one of the best parts. After hatch, it's spotless in about 15 minutes. The other great thing is the 3 year warranty. Both of mine run constantly, and the warranty is comforting. They are expensive, but stupidly simple to use. The reviews on the 40 aren't as good as the 20, that's why I bought another 20. I also like not having to wait 3 weeks between hatches.
Two of them are a little over $700, though, and that's without the pump. I think in Sidewing's scenario, I would incubate in a Genesis and hatch in his Frankenbator

I think the new Genesis comes with a plastic liner. I found one online for my Farm Innovations. With the liner and shelf liner mine was a breeze to clean. If I really get into incubating I'll probably spring for a Brinsea.

Yes the Advance has the digital display. Eco has glass thermometer. Advance EX adds the pump.

Thanks. My wife works at home so she kept constant vigil. My incubator did maintain consistent temps and humidity. However at lockdown, the temp dynamics changed a good bit. I only candeled twice with the last one at lockdown. When I removed the quitters that's when things changed a little.
