French Marans and Peachicks

Thanks Deerman - I think I finally understand what you mean by barred wings.

Here's some close up pics I just took. Would you mind taking a look and let me know what you think?

This bird has always shown aggression and leadership and has been jumping some of the others since it was a little tyke and was the first to display or fan.

Yippie, yipppie, yippie - I knew it. Thanks so much. Now that means I might have three males and three females - if, the green one is a male, and the opal is a male, and I think you identified one of the brown ones as a possible male.

I'm so glad the opal is a male because I named him Opie when he was little and have been calling him that ever since.

I don't know anything about sexing peachicks or baby chicks or even baby ducks but I spend so much time with them that I can identify a male by it's behavior and characteristics and movements almost from day one and so far, I haven't been wrong. Young males, in all of the above, just act differently. It's subtle and if you didn't spend a lot of time with them you wouldn't notice it. It's even hard to explain.

Thanks so much Deerman - you are such a wonderful reference source and so knowledgeable. I still don't know how you identified the colors as early as you did but you have been right on each one - they are all coloring out exactly as you said.

Ruth in your post #65 2nd pic is a male also. Spaulding

The Blackshoulder male is also a spaulding.

Spaulding with high % green blood are harder to sex as the hens color out like the males. Just dont get the train feathers.

My little Marans that started this thread are now laying their first eggs. I was so egggggcited to find this in the coop today.
