From silkie mix to new breed?

I agree with you that vulture hocks are quite attractive. I do not think it is possible that roosters can be pencilled. All examples of pencilled breeds show only the female being pencilled, while the males have a solid colored back and chest. I think the only breeds with pencilled males are Campines, and some of their close relatives. I think they are pencilled because they are hen-feathered breeds.

Well, then I guess when their chest and back feathers will come in I should be able to see which will be pullets and which will be cockerels.
I think that means the chick that my silkie is raising will be a pullet. It looks like her chest will be pencilled. First picture is from last friday, second is from today. I will take updated pictures this friday.

I took some pictures of the newest chicks that are now 1 week old. I named them Orion, Onyx, Opal, Olive and Ocean. I didn't plan on giving them all o names, but I thought it would be fun. Even though Orion and Onyx aren't Oakley's chicks.
If wing/feather sexing was possible on them then from the looks of it I'll have 2 cockerels (Orion and Onyx) and the rest will be pullets. The white ones also all have big wings and little tails.

A little thing I just remembered is that if I keep either Orion or Onyx and breed to Oakley they have a 25% chance of having lavender chicks.

They are adorable. I do not believe that pencilling is identifiable in chicks, unlike auto-sexing or sexlinked chicks.

So does that mean they'll all be pencilled, but the roosters will loose it when they mature? I've never had any pencilled roosters, so I don't know. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I am not sure if all of the chicks will be pencilled, and if the males lose it when they mature. I also have never had chickens before, let alone pencilled ones. I do know that the roosters will not be pencilled though.

I don't know. It's possible, both her parents are crested. These chicks don't really show much of a crest before it starts growing in.
