Fugly Farm

Flock update: I saw Jr mate with one of the red girls this morning, one with black on her tail. My daughter saw him go after the tailless girl yesterday and I just saw her in a nest box this morning. Tailless is a tiny thing, no bigger than the little white Nn pullet.

I find it interesting that Jr often roosts next to the young roo. I suspect it's to keep tabs on him and I have no doubt it's intentional. He'll often start out next to his girls but moves before dark to the opposite end of the roost. The young guy is very low key, no crowing or enticing the girls yet. He sort of hangs out on the fringes at first and then blends in, much like Jr did with the big girls at first.

Carrots from the garden this morning. This is a 4 quart bowl

Great crop of carrots but, then I forget you don't have rotten winters like a lot of us do. Do the doggos enjoy carrots too?

My sister's dog loves carrots and ice cubes . He triggers the ice cube maker on her fridge and that leads to little puddles all over her kitchen floor. :smack

@igorsMistress That's a nice orange color. Did you plant some more carrot seed's to replace the one's that you pulled up?
No, it's going to get too hot before long and I need to plan a little better for next year. I'd like to plant some to leave in long enough to flower and get seeds from my own crop, that means 2 years without harvest from what I've read. I have squash and herbs to transplant so I need the space for those.

I was outside with the flock this morning while they had breakfast. One of the red girls started tiptoeing toward the car and soon a few others followed, including Jr who took the lead to my surprise. They were approaching with caution and I could see what appeared to be a reddish orange feather stuck to the tire. Nope, a new cat, and it was thinking about attacking. I walked over and it split, but I've been waiting for it to come back. If the chickens weren't out I would've let Frank out to give it a scare.

It will more than likely be back as soon as your back is turned. Cat's are sneaky critter's.

I'm sure it'll be back, especially once chicks are in the mini coop. I'm not going to hurt it, but I'm scare a life out of it.
