Eggs were supposed to arrive Friday but got here today. In the incubator not turning.

Well, they should be a smaller egg as they are a smaller breed.

I've seen adults birds of that breed, but can't recall seeing pictures of the chicks. Looking forward to photos, those are going to be tiny!

Not as tiny as quail but pretty darn close!

The chicks are starting to feather out and their feathers are darker than their fuzz. The feathers are jet black and it's hard to see their eyes and combs. I think it'll be easy to tell them apart though because one has a couple of white primary feathers on each wing and I doubt those will turn black.

I'm considering adding some bantam Turkens along with the Egyptian Fayoumis next year and going with smaller birds. A whole chicken is too much for us to eat when it's just me and hubs and I could have a nice variety of colors.

Angus is having a day or 2 of no bandage and I put out the pools again. It is just so hot and everyone is miserable out there. The chicks had about an hour and a half in the mini coop this morning, they are happy to be back in their brooder. I think tomorrow I'll give them a bit more time while I do some yard work. Today is day 3 for the eggs so I'm going to candle them tonight and see how they're doing.

The garden, yeesh. The smaller oleanders are struggling a bit in the heat, I'm not too sure about 2 of the plumbago and one of the elephant ears might not make it. A few of the succulents have died and I'm watering quite a few things every other day. I'm about half way done with spreading hay in the yard. I've tested the ground with my own bare feet and the hay makes a significant difference in comfort. The chickens very much enjoy scratching around in it that's for sure!

I know what you mean on the hot and miserable out there. I've been taking ice out there for mine to help them along. I get the weekend off from taking care of the animal's next door. He got the weekend off from his job down there on the border, so I'm relieved from that until Monday morning again. That will give me time to clean out those feather's in my coop and run a bit? It look's like they are having a pillow fight in there. They didn't start molting until the end of August last year.
