Minor injury?

View attachment 4031119
Esther, one of my pullets, has an open "sore" on her head, just behind the eye.

Will a dab of this (after dark) work?

I was going to disguise the wound with Blukote but a search here had a lot of negative comments about using it on an open wound.

@Wyorp Rock ? @1muttsfan ? @NanaK ? @Shadrach ?
Do you have any idea how she got the wound?
I would just apply Chlorhexedine to the wound and see if it heals over. One needs to apply the Chlorhexedine and leave it on the wound. Don't wipe the excess away on the wound itself.

No idea how she got it, I didn't notice it earlier but she's a fast one, might just have missed it.

I have Hibiclens in my cupboard, which appears to be a name brand for Chlorhexidine!

Thank you!

What's the best way to apply it, eyedropper or swab? Or ?

I'll just add my preference is not to use antibiotic anything until there is a serious problem. Antibiotic overuse is a real problem. Lots of others do differently.
I appreciate that, it makes sense. Due to overuse of antibiotics in my childhood I am now allergic to almost every antibiotic, and also sulfa. I don't have an anaphylactic reaction, but I do break out in hives. With sulfa my reaction was head to toe hives, some about 3" wide.

All done!

I couldn't find any cotton balls but I did have some loose gauze. I took a piece that was about the same size as a cotton ball, placed it in a tiny "Dixie" paper cup, and poured Hibiclens over it until it was soaked.

I located Esther, but despite using my headlamp's red light she didn't cooperate, so I took her off the roost, applied the soaking wet gauze to the spot, then placed her back on the roost.

:pop

I favor bag balm. It's an ointment so it sticks good, and is antiseptic but not an antibiotic.
Interestingly enough, it magically heals canker sores faster than anything I've ever seen.
I would not use it (or any ointment) in wounds that were all the way through the skin.
Witch hazel is a nice superficial wound cleaner also.
And I have witch hazel! I discovered an unopened bottle in the bathroom while cleaning. Ron liked using it as an aftershave.
