fuzzi's Chicken Journal

Sort of like oatmeal. :)

Mine don't like it too wet.

I save the lids from peanut butter jars to use for the first week, then I have deeper dishes cut from the bottoms of various plastic bottles.

No, not a good place. The take some time to figure it out.
Made the oatmeal, cleaned three butts.

They really liked it! Thanks.

Oh my, you did end up heavy on the boys.

I've been lying awake, thinking about them next to the wire. I got dressed, went outside and moved them to the top of the roost. I'd be angry with myself if they were hurt or worse because I wouldn't get out of bed.

They fit.

I moved the aquarium stand about 4-6" from the wire. When I checked on them about 6am this morning they were back on the stand but doing fine.

Dominiques!

I noticed that all their butts were free from feces, it worked! I gave them "mush" again:

Then I put a clump of grass with roots and dirt attached in the playpen with them. For a few seconds they were hesitant, but only for a few:

Several insects were located in the dirt and pecking ensued. Extra protein!

As soon as I put the chicks back in the brooder they all went under the MHP for warmth, and probably a little nap after all the excitement.
