fuzzi's Chicken Journal

I didn't see the chicks this morning, yet, but Naomi's "Go away" vocals are more of a softer coo.
:love
This is giving me some confidence about giving Tassels some chicks next time she goes broody (which will probably be in three weeks if she sticks to her normal rhythm).
I am as anxious as it is possible to be about doing this so reassurance is welcome.
Do you know how old they are? Did you introduce to Naomi during the day? I was thinking of doing it at night.

That incubator looks cool as heck, loads of room for the chicks once they hatch! What kind is it?

I have been STRUGGLING to follow all the people I put on "watch" I thought it was to follow threads (like yours here)

But all the notifications seem to slide off after a day or so, but I JUST DISCOVERED THE NEWS FEED.

THAT is where it all is!!! Will be better at keeping updated now! :celebrate
Not sure, got it on Amaz0n.

I go to the menu>forums>watched threads, don't rely on notifications.

This is my third time sliding chicks under a broody mom. The first two times went smoothly. Each time I slid the chicks underneath the broody at night.

These chicks arrived at TSC yesterday, so not day old, and it shows. They're more active.

Naomi wants them to stay under her, pecks them if they try to leave, so since I'm off the next three days I will be monitoring the situation.

When I first went out to the coop this morning I saw two chicks that were out in the brooder, exploring, so I introduced them to the waterer. Once I put them back under her she calmed down.

Drama, drama.

I have some chicken broodies that do better with daytime adoption.

Oh my anxiety is going up again. I will need to put older chicks under her to give the Marek’s vaccine a chance to work.
I am thinking maybe 4 day olds.

The problem is with chicks over a week bonding. Usually the hen will bond.
I was given 8 days old CX and one chicken hen decided to take them from the turkey hen I gave them to a week later. The turkey had hatched a poult and 4 chicks the same age. The CX were having trouble keeping up. The chicken hen abandoned her nest of bad eggs to take care of the crying chicks.

I was going to try 4 days. There are some studies available and they suggest I could have an 80% survival from Marek's after 4 days. But I don't know if that is too long from a chick point of view.
Sorry @fuzzi, wasn't trying to hijack your thread - but I was taken with your Naomi little chicks story.
