You folks are giving me the bug... I've got to find my good grow light. It's somewhere around here in a box. Moved in July of 16 and still have boxes that haven't been unpacked. I have a nice spot in the living room for a six foot table to get plants started. This year I am planting almost double what I need and will give the extra's to the neighbor. I want to go over in spring and get her a decent garden setup, maybe get her greenhouse fixed, she's such a nice person but kind of makes me like a spring chicken and wound up breaking an ankle this fall trying to turn over this nasty hard red clay. I'll need to figure out what to add to it, when I till it to give her a decent soil for her plants.
Clay base? Have you tried back to eden gardening? Check Paul Gautchi on YouTube. You folks are giving me the bug... I've got to find my good grow light. It's somewhere around here in a box. I'm not sure I can afford the materials to give her raised beds. I will if I can, but money is still tight. What a nice thing to do for your neighbor Bob! What about a couple of raised beds for her instead of trying to amend the clay soil? Might be easier for her to take care of.
I'm familiar with his methods and use them myself. But it takes time to get the soil right.Clay base? Have you tried back to eden gardening? Check Paul Gautchi on YouTube.
Well, get it started so it will work. Bury some compost, cover with lotsa loverly woodchips, and plant. Come fall cover with good chicken run compost on top of the wood chips. Spring plant. Fall compost. No digging after that first year. Bob's your uncle.I'm not sure I can afford the materials to give her raised beds. I will if I can, but money is still tight.

You can use concrete blocks, they are fairly cheap.I'm not sure I can afford the materials to give her raised beds. I will if I can, but money is still tight.
