good morning. naps can become habit forming. I don't purposely take a nap. I turn on the TV and wake up an hour later. that's how it works. then I stay up until midnight, wake up at 3 AM , get up and play on the computer and go back to bed at 5:3o until 8 or 9 ..
Yesterday I was sitting outside drinking my coffee.
DW comes out of the house and asks me if I want to go grocery shopping.. OK, so I start walking toward her through the tomato plants and I stem on the edge of w watering dish. it is plastic and wet with dew. slippery as ice.
I fell gradually, grabbing at anything that will break my fall. did not hurt myself. but now I am lying in dewey wet grass. So DW comes and pulls on my hand and I am up and only slightly wet. Last night I heard from some muscles I haven't used in years. a couple of Alleves and I slept like a log until 6AM.
I don't ache much today.

Glad you didn't hurt yourself bad

thanks, and so am I. I am a bit sore on the right side of my back in the muscle between the top of the hip bone and below the ribs.
it too shall pass.
I got the radiator back on . put some gas in, checked the oil. went down to the patch where I am going to be planting rhubarb. I dragged it a couple of times again. it is pretty weed free now.
I will go over it with rhe rorotiller to smooth it out. then I will dig holes and fill them with compost. I have only one rhubarb root to plant at the moment, but I have a couple of promises of more from three other people.
I have a few acres where I can plant them.
so bring them on..
I am thinking of getting rhubarb seeds. I think I could sell a ton of potted plants next spring.. As hard as I had to look for them, nobody locally is selling them.
catalogs are charging about $27.oo/each..
IDK what the shipping is for a potted rhubarb..

you sound like us, we're always doing something that boogers us up, whenever i do something like that(fall) i try to go down easy,i just relax my whole body that way unless i hit my head on something i don't do much damage, if i get stove up i just hang upside down on the inversion table
glad you're not hurt

I tried an inversion table,,,,once. I did not like it at all.
I know some people like them.
I don't fall often. the last time was about six years ago.
it was winter, I went out and was standing where my dog was tied. he ran a loop around me and the chain jerked both of my feet out from under me. I landed flat on my back.. didn't get hurt.
It is raining lightly right now. IDK if it will be too wet to rototill the future rhubarb patch. I have an 8 o'clock appointment . maybe it will dry up before I get home.
what are the rest of you folks doing for excitement ?

I'm gonna like this thread !!! We use raised beds here because our soil isn't really soil, it's sand... We can grow potatoes without amendments, but that's about it. We bought a bunch of cinder blocks when we first moved up here from Minneapolis, did an experiment on each bed, lasagna method in one, somewhat composted debris mixed with sand/soil in another, hauled in topsoil in another. Nothing worked better than another, and they all worked OK. We've had to add another row of cinder block, as the soil as "uppened" as we've added plant material, compost, manure, etc over the years. I don't remember where I read the term "uppened", some well-known, very smart gardening person, anybody know?
You can use your good soil as a side dressing too, rather than dumping it wholesale in the garden.
In addition, we go to local auctions and I have acquired small stock tanks, galvanized garbage cans, etc VERY cheaply, and will use those around the soon-to-be-completed deck for herbs, lettuce, and other salad fixin's. Haven't decided yet if I'll paint them. Also found a couple of washing machine agitator tubs while clearing out trash piles around the property (it's a process). One is already painted and used as a container for flowers, sitting on an oak stump, which makes mowing easier.
Keep in mind the size of the raised beds - 30 inches wide is wide enough to weed but you won't have to lean terribly far - enough for a good stretch, and tighten those stomach muscles to help stabilize the back !!!
And remember, you won't have to till the soil since you won't be compacting it by walking on it. Keep those microbes in the soil layers where they're most happy !!!
Looking forward to all the great ideas !!
