Garlic?

I've read chickens can have garlic, so I was just wondering if I could add garlic to our ducks water.

Duck don't catch chickens diseases. You need an antibiotic for the chickens

Ducks can and do catch respiratory infections from chickens. Two that they can get from chickens are mycoplasma and cholera.

As for garlic, most vets recommend not using it because it can be toxic.

@TyKyra Lancaster, is a vet an option? I ask because it would be best to have a vet look at your chicken and prescibe an antibiotic.

Yes!!!! Garlic is a great way to keep your ducks healthy. Floating it in there water or mixing some garlic powder in there food is great!

Have you ever heard of a veterinarian recommending this? All articles I have read say not to feed garlic to birds, cats, and dogs.

Really...I give my ducks garlic. I have heard of people giving it to ducks so I tried it! I have heard it is great for immune booster!

I know lots of people do, but what you aren't going to find are any posts or article by vets that suggest doing it.

That is how I feel too.....well we will see what happens! I say give it to your ducks, but some say no.....hey I am going to start a thread and give a poll...so we can all argue there!

The present experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of adding graded levels (0, 0.15, 0.45, 0.3 and 0.6%) of garlic (Allium sativum) to the basal experimental diet on the broiler chicks growth performance and immune response. One hundred and fifty unsexed Ross broiler chicks were randomly distributed; 30 birds/dietary treatment and each treatment contained 3 replicates (10 birds/replicate). The results showed significant (p<0.05) improvement in feed conversion ratio of birds fed 0.3% garlic. The mortality rate followed the same trend of feed conversion ratio. Weight gain was found to be increased by inclusion of garlic, but was not statistically significant. Total White Blood Cells (TWBC) of birds fed 0.3% garlic was significantly (p<0.05) higher compared to these fed other dietary treatments and the lower TWBC was recorded by the control treatment. No significant differences in blood serum total protein, albumen and globulin were observed. Colour, flavour, tenderness and juiciness of sensory evaluated samples were not statistically different.

I would add it to food over water. I have used garlic in their fermented feed and they liked it. I use an air dried garlic.

I’ve bought a jar of chopped garlic when my hens had a slight spring time respiratory issue. Between that and vetRX they all recovered.I’m severely allergic to garlic and didn’t want to handle it,

My coops smelled heavenly As @llombardo says it’s great in fermented feed, leave their water alone , it might not interest them all. Also if you do ff also have dry available too.

Ducks actually don't require garlic and either do Chickens. I just use clean water and fresh feed.
